Military Man Candy tribute on this Memorial Day Holiday...

I'm sure all you patient followers are wondering...
"when is this 9 Days of Darkness over so we get our regular doses of Man Candy?"
You know I wouldn't dare let you go without it for too long!

So in honor of this Memorial Day Holiday Weekend,
I've got Man Candy with a little Military flair!
Alright men, fall in!

Reasons Why Men in Uniform Are So Attractive to Women

Women find men in uniform virtually irresistible. Why is that? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why? What is it about a sharp-dressed man that makes a grown woman weak in the knees? Why does an otherwise articulate woman suddenly feel she has a mouth full of marbles and can only seem to utter a schoolgirl giggle.

There are a number of reasons that men in uniform are sexy. I'm going to go over the top reasons.

• Men in uniform appear responsible. Someone wearing a uniform has a responsibility to their position, to their country, or their team. Women like knowing a man is responsible. She assumes that responsibility may spill over into other areas.

• Men in uniform appear to be committed. Commitment is something men often shy away from, but a man in uniform at least shows he can commit to something. That's always a good start, right ladies? He's committed to his profession. He's committed to his sport. He's committed to his country. He's committed to his buddies. Will be as committed to you?

• Men in uniform appear clean and tidy. Let's face it, men can be slouchy and untidy. A man in uniform is crisp and clean, at least initially. A little bit of hard-earned dirt and grime can be pretty sexy too. But who keeps him starched, clean and tidy? Will it be you?

• Men in uniform wear fitted clothing in good condition. Uniforms are rarely, if ever, in the wrong size or in need of repair. They would have to work really hard at looking slouchy in fitted clothing.

• Men in uniform exude confidence. Men in uniform tend to stand taller and speak clearer. Women love a confident man. Men know it too, ladies.

• Men in uniform represent authority. Men in uniform tend to command respect just by the authority they seem to represent. They then act accordingly. It is extremely rare for a man in uniform to act out of character. He knows he's being watched.

In Conclusion
All that stuff above and they are SEXY AS HELL!

The 9 Days of Darkness event is coming to a close…
But don’t despair; we’ve saved a good one for the end!

Jenna Maclaine, Author of BOUND BY SIN
and finalist for the
2010 RomCon Reader's Crown awards will be here
9am-3pm PST TODAY!
Thanks to fate or coincidence, I was sent BOUND BY SIN to judge for the upcoming RomCon convention in July. Finding out it was the 3rd book in the series; I immediately ordered the first two. Boy was I glad that I did.

Let’s find out a little more about this wonderful author…
Interview with Jenna Maclaine

1. Where do you currently live? I live in North Georgia.
2. Are you Married? kids? No husband or kids, but I have two beautiful nieces whom I adore.
3. What/who started you in writing? I’ve always written stories and poems. When I was a kid I used to make little books out of folded pieces of paper and write stories about my animals. I started writing the first Cin Craven book, Wages of Sin, back in 2004 after Buffy and Angel had gone off the air and I'd run out of vampire books to read.
4. Do you want to thank one person in particular for giving that extra push? My parents have always been enormously supportive of my writing. I couldn’t ask for a better support system than them. And my grandmother always believed in me. I promised her before she passed away that I would finish the book I was writing at the time. I didn’t that one, but I did write Wages, so I think she’d be proud of me.
5. How many books did you attempt before you were published? I have one unfinished historical romance in the bottom of my desk drawer, but Wages of Sin was the first book I completed.
6. Do you have any MUST haves to write? Food, drink or time? Not really. Well, chocolate. I must have chocolate to do anything! As far as time goes, though, I prefer to write at night because everything is quiet and there’s not a whole lot that’s going to interrupt your creative process at 2AM. There are no errands you should be running or phone calls you should be making. Of course, the flip side of that is that it turns you into a vampire!
7. Which novel is your favorite in the Cin Craven series? I think Bound by Sin is my favorite novel in the series, “Sin Slayer” in the Huntress anthology is my favorite Cin short story and “The Warrior” in The Mammoth Book of Irish Romance is my favorite short story that doesn’t feature Cin.
8. Who is your favorite character? I think Cin has to be my favorite character overall, just because I know her so well. Of the secondary characters in the series, I grew very attached to Fiona in Wages of Sin and to Claire and Evangeline in Bound by Sin.
9. How many books are slated to be in the Cin Craven series? I have ideas for five or six more books, so eight or nine total for the series.
10. For the next book, what is the name and when is the release date? The working title of book four is Bar Sinister. I don’t have a release date for it yet.
11. What made you write a series about witches & vampires? As I said, I was a big fan of Buffy and Angel and paranormal romance/urban fantasy books in general, so when I decided to write my own book it seemed natural to go with a supernatural theme. And I love history so I liked the idea of writing vampires because I could explore so many different time periods with them.
12. Do you have plans for another new book/series? Once I’m done with Cin’s story there are several of my secondary characters I’d be interested in spinning off into their own series. It just depends on who speaks to me the loudest when the time comes.
13. Do you have any pets? . Oh yes! I live on a family farm. We have sheep, llamas, alpacas, and a multitude of dogs and cats, including my four Jack Russell Terriers
14. What is the 1st book you remember reading and falling in love with? Oh, there were so many! One of my favorites had to be The Golden Treasury of Poetry. I could spend hours- days!- with that book.
15. Who are your favorite authors? Favorite series? I have a lot of favorites, but to name a few: Laurell Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, MaryJanice Davidson, JR Ward, Kresley Cole, Katie Macalister, Julia Quinn, Jude Devereaux, Judith McNaught, Virginia Henley, Catherine Coulter, Diana Gabaldon, Eloisa James, Julia London. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, Davidson’s Undead, Gabaldon’s Outlander, and Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series are some of my favorites. Probably the most read and well-worn of my paperbacks are The Duchess by Jude Devereaux, Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught, Seize the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon, the first 4 books of the Outlander series and the first 8 books of Hamilton’s Anita Blake series.
16. What is your favorite quote?
“When you follow your bliss doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else.” ~Joseph Campbell

Review of Bound By Sin

What a wonderful heroine is our Cin Craven; Witch, vampire, member of the Righteous and wife. She has that knack for finding trouble, or maybe it’s that trouble just tends to find her in her new chosen profession. As a member of the Righteous, she and 3 others are charged with protecting the innocent, enforcing laws and wielding swift justice when necessary.

Cin finds herself being drawn somewhere, by someone.... back to her home. Someone has performed a summoning spell and a powerful one, but why? Upon arrival to the family estate, she finds that her niece has been kidnapped under strange circumstances. Her dear cousin pleads with her for her help, to return her daughter back home where she belongs.

Cin casts a spell to find her niece and confirms that she has been taken south, to a plantation by an evil acquaintance with ulterior motives. She has no choice by to help her kin, They will leave immediately to find her. Michael, Cin’s husband, is faced with Cin’s ever growing dark powers and is wary for her to us them, afraid of the consequences. But their love and bond is too strong to be broken, they will undertake this journey together. And bring back her family, no matter the obstacles.

This book is fantastic and gives you a little bit of everything; witches, voodoo, ghosts and even an imprisoned god. Though set in the past, there is nothing old or dated about this story. Cin Craven and her adventures are fresh, exciting and sometimes sinfully sexy. Michael and Cin’s chemistry seems to burn up the pages, very hot indeed!

Please check out Jenna’s books, you won’t be disappointed.

Day 8 w/ A.P. Miller

Day 8 in the
9 Days of Darkness event!
Today you get to chat with A.P. Miller
12-6:00 PM PST

Who is A.P. Miller?
(Written By: Highland Hussy)
A.P. Miller is a husband and wife writing team who despite incredible differences, works really well together. Andrew is a sweet and intelligent man who is tempered by Patti's quick wit and literary brilliance. Their erotica & BDSM novels are more than just a story, or a quick escape, it is an intensely researched storyline with plot, and backstory, rather than just sex for the sake of sex.

DL and I had a great long lunch/interview with them, and we discovered how well-read Andrew is, and how Patti has a quiet side until she has something to say, and then watch out! Not only is she intelligent, but funny too. After getting a start in fan-fiction, Andrew found Patti on her website, and the rest is history. They write together now, and anyone who has read "Librarians Don't Get Married" knows how intricate and detailed their work is. They will be on the website today, talking with commentors, so ask alot of questions and don't be afraid to ask the naughty ones!
Patti's very straightforward..she'll answer you!

We did give them the standard interview questions, and here's what they said:
1. Where do you currently live?
2. Are you Married? kids? pets?
3. What/who/ How did you get started writing?
4. Do you want to thank one person in particular for giving that extra push? MYSELF
5. How many books did you attempt before you were published?
6. Do you have any MUST haves to write? Food, drink or time?
7. Which novel is your favorite of your books?
8. Who is your favorite character?
9. How many books do you have in the work now?
10. For your next book, What is the name and when is the release date?
11. What made you write a dark book?
12. Do you like writing the hot romance scenes?
13. Do you have plans for another new book/series?
14. What is the 1st book you remember reading and falling in love with? MIDDLE MARCH
15. Who is your favorite authors? Favorite series?
16. What is your favorite quote?
17. Do you have a favorite book cover?
18. Naughtiest book you ever read?

Review of Librarians Don't get married

Have you ever see that mild mannered Librarian, you know the one I mean; straight laced, hair in a tight bun, glasses, pencil skirt & high collared blouse. And sometimes think, that every man's fantasy is that she’ll trade in her Dewey Decimal System at 5pm, let down her hair and turn into a raging sex starved tiger of a nymphomanic?? (that might be my husband's fantasy...)

Well hello there! You've just the main character in this book, Miss Weiss. Well, maybe she's not starved, anyway...

But things are not what they seem in her sleepy little town. She is a member of a secret society; one where sex, BDSM and deviant behavior is expected and encouraged. Miss Weiss finds it her duty to hand pluck and mold a new recruit, show him the way "into the fold", if you will.

There’s many players in this story, seems almost no one in the town is left out. As sexy & explicit as this book is, it delivers so much more to the reader then just a naughty jaunt to “fantasy island”; giving us the gift of connection, desire, lust and joy to be shared alongside the characters within it. It gives us intricate stories, amazing detail and most of all; a reason for this story to be, to exist, to captivate; a simple possibility that these fantasies can exist.
Please note that this book is XXX and rides that slippery slope between "Take me to bed or lose me forever!" & "Bow chica WOw WOw". So don't say I didn't warn you about the HAWTness level of this novel!

A.P. Miller’s writing is skilled and seamlessly crafted, a joy to read no matter what the genre. As are the couple that write them, a joy, that is.
I am honored to meet such a wonderful author (you too Andrew!), Patti is a stong but kind hearted woman and fabulous cheerleader for a budding author.
Andrew, you are a remarkable bundle of happiness and energy unlike any I've ever seen.
Together, you are a perfect balance, Yin & Yang. Please keep doing what you do!
And Patti... You go girl! For snagging a man 20 years your junior. LOL

Day 7 w/ C.R. Moss & R.M. Sotera @ 9 Days of Darkness

Friday, May 28th is Day 7
in the
Today we welcome 2 authors,
C.R. Moss & R.M. Sotera
They will be here live 10-4pm PST.
Highland Hussy and I had quite the adventures in Las Vegas, the most enjoyable being our interview with authors C.R.Moss and R.M. Sotera. I taped the entire interview and 90% of the interview was all four of us girls giggling and laughing so hard, it was like comedy hour at the Improv. Boy was that a fun interview. Oh, and I’ll have all of you know that this interview is where we came up with the GOLDEN CUCUMBER AWARD. Yes, if you haven’t seen it already, it’s quite the vegetable spectacle.LOL

Since my recording didn’t render much in the way of material to report, I asked each author to answer some of the standard interview questions. I love asking the same questions and seeing what each author has to say.

Here’s a photo with RM. DL & HH.

And here’s CR and the Las Vegas back drop.

So let’s hear what they have to say:
1. Where do you currently live?
CR- Las Vegas, baby, yeah! Land of sun and warmth and not too much humidity.
RM- I live in Henderson, Nevada.
2. Are you Married? kids? pets?
CR-I’m married and in a TINK situation, unless you count our cat as a K. He sure can be as needy as one. Interesting tidbit, Marius, our cat, is the inspiration for Myrddin, the feline in my current series with Devine Destinies. Oh and TINK is ‘two incomes no kids’ for those who might be wondering.
RM- I’m married, one son age eleven and a step-son age thirty two.
3. What/who/ How did you get started writing?
CR-Geez, I’ve been working toward a career in writing for as long as I can remember. I had been creating stories since I started to read, but the thought of writing for a living solidified when I was in middle school and received an A in English. I looked at the grade and that’s when my life was defined. I realized I could do it. From that point on, I put pen to paper to get my thoughts down and made sure to take classes appropriate to learning and honing the craft. I did Creative Writing and Drama in high school. My BA from Rutgers stems from a concentration of courses in Communications and English. I’ve even taken a couple of novel writing workshops where I was mentored one-on-one by a Kensington author. Now there are the classes at the conventions, conferences and through the local RWA chapter that I attend, which helps to keep me writing.
RM- I’ve written for many, many years. From diaries to journals, to short stories. Six years ago I decided to try my luck at novel writing. My first novel took me five years to complete. I was in graduate school, so I wrote when I could. Usually early in the morning, and late at night.
4. Do you want to thank one person in particular for giving that extra push?
CR-Not just one, but all my English teachers from middle school through college, including my literature and creative writing professors.
RM- Yes, and she knows who she is; my writing soul-mate.
5. How many books did you attempt before you were published?
CR-I had a full novel completed and two others in the works when my first novella was contracted. Since then two of the full novels have been published, one which was expanded and split into three segments, and the third is currently being dismantled and worked into four different novellas
RM- Oh boy…a few.
6. Do you have any MUST haves to write? Food, drink or time?
CR-Sunflower seeds. Water or coffee depending upon the time of day.
RM- I need music in my ear. The type of music depends on the scene I’m writing.
7. Which novel is your favorite of your books?
CR-I’d have to say, right at this moment, it’s my novella Dirty Little Demons, the fifth story in my Dirty Little series. It was written in collaboration with my writing partner, RM Sotera. We’re quite excited about these stories. Check out the trailer here:
RM- Probably “A Thirsting Love,” the first book in my vampyre series. Yes…the name is spelled funky because we are not talking about the supernatural kind. Do I have you wondering?
8. Who is your favorite character?
RM-From the Dirty Little series, I have to say handsome demon Ash. Dark hair, eyes, goatee…think Robert Downey, Jr. in Iron Man either dressed in the suit in the desert or in that burgundy shirt and black dress pants
RM- My favorite character in my books is probably a tie for hero between Jordan in “Thirsting Love,” and Jett in “Dirty Dancer.” As for heroine, It was a blast to write Mia in “Thirsting Love,” and Sophia in “Dirty Dancer.”
9. How many books do you have in the works now?
CR-Let’s see… I have one I’m wrapping up that’s due out in the summer. That’s a time travel called Look What the Cat Dragged In for Julie and will be available through Devine Destinies. Then four more contracted. One is for extasy books—Dirty Little Boys, where Keg is the hero and has to rescue people from Hell, and where Ash lets a secret out. The others, stories that follow the remaining inhabitants and friends of Raritan Manor from the Look What the Cat Dragged In series, will be available through Devine Destinies during the next year or so. I’m also in various stages for about ten more stories from novellas to full length (80K+) stories.
RM- Too many!
10. For your next book, what is the name and when is the release date?
CR-My next book due out is Dirty Little Demons and is slated for release on June 15, 2010 through
RM- My next book in the Dirty series is titled “Dirty Deed.” The release date is pending. I need to finish writing it first.
11. . What made you write a dark book?
CR-My writing roots started in horror. I wanted to be the next great horror writer until a friend of mine lent me her copy of A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux. Since then I’ve been writing romance and currently merging romance with the darker aspects of life. What can I say? I like to torture my characters at times; In fact, the first two books in my Dirty Little series were considered ‘creepy’ by one of my critique partners. And my story, Beautiful People, is pretty disturbing as well. Dirty Little Demons isn’t as creepy or disturbing, but it still has a dark angle to it.
RM- My Catholic upbringing. LOL
12. Do you like writing the hot romance scenes?
CR-It depends upon the story and if my characters and muse are in the mood.
RM- It depends.
13. Do you have plans for another new book/series?
CR-Like I mentioned, I have about ten more WIPs. Some of those stories will finish out the Dirty Little series. Another one will be part of a cowboy series. The remaining stories will be for two other paranormal series and at this time I’m keeping mum about them. One has to have some mystery surrounding them, right?
RM- Yes…check out my website at The site was updated recently with my works in progress.
14. What is the 1st book you remember reading and falling in love with?
CR-There have been different books at different times of my life. As a very young child, it was Winnie the Pooh. I think I drove my mother and the library people nuts with always taking out that book, along with Beauty and the Beast. As a young girl, there were Black Beauty and The Black Stallion. In high school it was Pet Sematary (& anything else by King). In my late teens and early 20’s they were Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice, Remembrance by Jude Deveraux, then two by Clive Barker—Imajica and Weaveworld. The last book as an adult I can remember falling in love with was the third book in the Beauty series by Rice.
RM- Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility,” and “Interview With A Vampire.” Yes…I know, quite an eclectic mix.
15. Who are your favorite authors? Favorite series?
CR-In no particular order: Clive Barker; Stephen King – Dark Tower series; anything by Anne Rice (including her more recent works); Frank Herbert – Dune series
RM- Anne Rice remains all supreme for me. Love…I mean love…the “Sleeping Beauty” series.
16. What is your favorite quote?
CR-“This too shall pass.” (King Solomon)
RM-“Thou art to me a delicious torment.” Emerson.
17. Do you have a favorite book cover?
CR-That’s a tie for me: Beautiful People and Dirty Little Demons
RM- Not really, But, if I had to choose I would consider Alyssa Day’s Atlantis series.
18. Naughtiest book you ever read?
CR-I read V.C. Andrews in eighth grade—the first three in the Dollanganger series. I thought those were naughty. Then I read Rice’s Beauty series, Belinda and Exit to Eden the early 2000s. Now those were fun, naughty books.
RM- Probably the Anne Rice Beauty series.

CR also said:

Thanks for having me & my writing partner R.M. Sotera on the blog!

Day 6 w/ Adrian Phoenix @ 9 DAYS OF DARKNESS EVENT

9 Days of Darkness with
Adrian Phoenix
today from 12-6pm PST.

I was fortunate to have my interview with Adrian Phoenix via telephone and able to chat for quite some time. I’d like to thank her for being so patient, since I did the interview over a month ago and am just now posting it. I wanted to make sure I had a special venue to showcase her as the incredible author she is and talk about her wonderful books.

Most importantly, let me say that Adrian is the sweetest person, ever! She is truly a kind soul. She was a delight to speak with and I’m glad to have had the chance to ask her these questions:

1. Where do you live? Kids? Pets?
Springfield, OR . She is single, has 2 adult sons and lives with her three cats. My cats' names are: Amega, Diobla’ and Ember
2. What started you writing?
I always wanted to write and I wrote a lot of stories growing up. I always thought there was an old arcane process of writing a novel, so I never really tried it.
I took a workshop on novel structure and had the “ah ha!” moment, it was no different than writing the short stories. So I went home and wrote A RUSH OF WINGS.
3. RUSH OF WINGS was your first attempt at writing a novel?
Yes, that was the first book I wrote. I feel very fortunate, I submitted the book at the right time.
4. Do you have any must haves when you write?
I write on the computer, but when I get stuck on something I turn to a yellow legal pad and write a stream of consciousness; helping me figure out where I made a wrong turn.
But I do need my cup of coffee and my music. I listen to Nine inch Nails, Lincoln Park or some movie soundtracks. The music matches the intensity of Dante’s character.
5. What is your favorite book in the series?
I like them all, but A RUSH OF WINGS was my first and is very special to me.
6. Who’s your favorite character?
Dante, of course. He is the center and everything revolves around him.
7. When does the next book in the series release? What is the title? Who does is focus on?
ETCHED IN BONE releases in Dec 2010, Dante is always the focus, but here’s a blurb about the book:
I. Ain't. Running. And I sure as hell ain't hiding.
But that vow brings consequences that Dante Baptiste--True Blood vampire, Fallen Maker, rock musician--never imagined even as it brings him face to face with those hunting him and his lover, former FBI agent, Heather Wallace; the covert Shadow Branch, the vampire Cercle de Druide, and rogue assassins. And now that the Fallen have finally discovered their long-awaited Maker, they have no intention of letting him walk away.

As Dante Fights to claim his life as his own, while dealing with the awakened and shattered memories of his brutal past, an unexpected enemy arises from within Heather's family; an enemy who nearly destroys Dante by stealing the one person who keeps him balanced--Heather.

All worlds--mortal, nightkind, and Fallen--hang in the balance as Dante searches for Heather. And his success or failure will determine whether he becomes the Never-Ending Road or the Great Destroyer.

8. I like to find new and upcoming authors and make recommendations to the followers, Do you have anyone you think we should know about?
I would recommend author D.B. Reynolds and her Vampires in America series. She is a talented writer and was even nominated and a finalist for best new PN author in 2009.
9. Can you tell me about your new book, BLACK DUST MAMBO?
It releases on June 29th and is the first book in a new series about Voodoo(black magic) and Hoodoo (folk magic) in the Bayou. It has murder, mystery and a wet boxer contest (this is right up DemonLover’s alley, wet men boxing!).
10. What is the first book you fell in love with?
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
11. Who is your favorite author? series?
Jeaniene Frost and the Night Huntress series
12. Do you have any exciting plans coming up?
Actually, when writing Book 3 BENEATH THE SKIN, I had to map out a cross country trip for Dante and Heather to flee to New Orleans. I plan to make that same cross country trip with a friend this summer, it should be very exciting.

Please check out Adrian’s website, Club Hell forum and her Street Team. All information about her books and more can be found at

Theo Thursday is a little early... Enjoy!

surely you are an angel
fallen here to live on earth
an image of no mere mortal man
skin of sculpted bronze
hair of silk
eyes of the Mediterranean sea
You capture our hearts through pictures
we drown in the endless depths of your gaze
we long to touch the perfection of you
more to prove that you are real
not just a dream
our imagination
surely you are not real
only a man
and here among us
have we died and gone to heaven?
to have this angel here among us...

Day 5 w/ author D.B. Reynolds in 9 DAYS OF DARKNESS

I‘m so happy to introduce a new “to me” author, D.B. Reynolds.
I found DB through author Adrian Phoenix; she recommended her and said I should give her books a try.

I recently finished her first book in the Vampires in America series, Raphael, and am very impressed with her writing style. Reading the first book in a series is sometimes tedious and like browsing a books’ table of contents to see what’s in store. Although I often expect the first book in a series to drag as we learn the “rules” of the storyline, or try to get comfortable with the characters, almost like a first date; learning and questioning as we go. Raphael however is a pair of well worn, soft leather boots…familiar, welcoming, and ready to take a long stroll. Really, I think I read this book in a single day. You will no doubt love the story, the characters and be left wanting for more.

Review of Raphael, Vampires in America series

The story is set in Malibu, CA. This is of course where the beautiful people live, and who are more beautiful than the flawless undead, vampires to be specific. Raphael is a Vampire Lord, he is power; and tips the balance between life and death for the vampires he rules over. Who would possibly defy him? A group of humans dare a daylight attack and kidnap a female vampire who is dear to Raphael. He will seek out a human private investigator to help track them and find her before its too late.

Cynthia Leighton is just that investigator. She was once a cop and known for helping a vamp who was in a jamb. She was called to take on this kidnapping and jumped at the chance; anything would be better then chasing cheating spouses for a change. But Cynthia got a lot more than just a new assignment; she may have gotten herself in way over her head with a certain vampire Lord named Raphael.

Raphael is everything we expect him to be for a vampire Lord. He is dark, mysterious and excruciatingly seductive. The passion and fire that ignites between him and Cynthia is breathtaking. D.B. has mastered the art of perfect seduction with her writing of the love scenes in this novel. Intense moments of torment, pleasure and anticipation will keep you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath to find out what comes next. I can give this novel no less than 5 stars, for it deserves each and every one of them.

Watch out readers! I fully expect to see Reynolds’ books lining the shelves alongside great authors the likes of Kenyon, Hamilton and Moning.

I was able to ask D.B. a few questions, here's what she had to tell us:
Interview with D.B. Reynolds

1. Where do you currently live?
I live in California, in one of those flammable canyons near Malibu.
2. Are you Married? kids? pets?
I’ve been married for many years to my brilliant and wonderful husband. No kids and no pets, either. We travel too much to make pets practical.
3. When did you get started writing?
I started writing in high school when I was lucky enough to have a couple of great composition teachers. It was an experiment in team teaching, so there were two teachers in the classroom at the same time. They were wickedly funny and very encouraging. I decided then that I wanted to be a writer, although it wasn’t until many, many years later that I had the chance to really pursue my goal.
4. Do you want to thank one person in particular for giving that extra push?
Well, my mom always had books in our house and she really pushed all of us to read. I think every good writer is a reader at heart. We just write the books we’d like to read. So, among so many other things, I thank my mom for that.
5. How many books did you attempt before you were published?
Three? I’m trying to count back. I think it was three, but maybe four. Two of them are sitting on a shelf and maybe eventually I’ll go back and do something with those story ideas. But the other one (and a half) are the first books in an epic fantasy trilogy which I DEFINITELY will finish someday. It’s just a matter of finding the time.
6. Do you have any MUST haves to write? Food, drink or time?
First of all, I write mostly at night. I start around midnight and write until about 4:00-4:30 a.m. That’s when I’m at my most productive. I usually grab an hour, sometimes two, during the day for revisions, but daytime is also when I take care of other things, like interviews and guest blogs, keeping up on my various boards and writing groups. Other than that, I take my laptop with me everywhere I go, and I can write almost anywhere, as long as I’m not constantly interrupted. Which means I can write in the middle of an anonymous crowd, in a coffee shop or the doctor’s office waiting room, but not in the presence of anyone who’s likely to expect conversation? Food and/or drink aren’t important, except for water. Must stay hydrated, you know.
7. Which novel is your favorite of your books?
The one I’m working on is always my favorite; because that’s the one I’m most immersed in at any given time. And that means I love it all over again when I get the manuscript back for revisions, because I look at it fresh every time.
8. Who is your favorite character?
Oh, no. I’m not falling for that one. I have to work with these people. I love all of my characters!
9. How many books do you have in the works now?
Well, my third Vampires in America book is coming out soon, so I’m expecting copy edit/revisions on that very soon. I also have a werewolf e-novella which will release in July and I’m doing copy edit/revisions on that right now. And then I’m currently writing the fourth Vampires in America book, Sophia, which I had to interrupt in order to complete all these revisions! And in the back of my head, I’m percolating story ideas for the fifth Vampires book, a new werewolf novel in the same universe as my novella, and a whole new series starring demons, I think.
10. For your next book, what is the name and when is the release date?
Rajmund, Book 4 of Vampires in America, will release on July 15th of this year.
And Heart of the Wolf, my werewolf e-novella, will release sometime in July, though I don’t have a specific date yet.
11. What made you write a dark book?
I got tired of reading about vampires who were too civilized, too far away from the myth of Vampire. They’d become nothing more than sensitive guys who were forced to drink blood to survive and really didn’t want to. I wanted to write a story (or stories) about vampires who were VAMPIRES! Totally alpha characters that were bloody, predatory, territorial and lethal . . . as well as sexy, gorgeous and possessive as hell.
12. Do you like writing the hot romance scenes?
I don’t mind writing them and I like reading them once I’ve finished, but they’re actually a lot of work. It’s important to make hot scenes flow and to retain a sense of sexual urgency, so that the reader actually gets caught up the sensuality of the sexual action. And since there are only so many ways of saying “insert tab A into slot B,” I have to come up with other things for the lovers to do and feel, and other ways for me to describe it, before, during and after the insertion of said tab into that slot.
13. Do you have plans for another new book/series?
Yes, definitely. I’ve already written a Science Fiction Romance which has garnered high praise and which I hope to have a publisher for in the next year. If I do find a publisher, I’d love to write more in that universe. I’m also currently making notes to myself about a whole new series featuring some new paranormal – new in the sense I’ve not written it before.
14. What is the 1st book you remember reading and falling in love with?
Charlotte’s Web, I got it at the library when I was about nine, I think. And the librarian, who knew me well since I was in there every week checking out a big pile of books, told me she thought it was a little too simple for my reading level. But I checked it out anyway and fell in love with it.
15. Who are your favorite authors? Favorite series?
So many authors! But I have to say that Adrian Phoenix is one of my very favorites. I love her Maker’s Song series with Dante Baptiste and Heather. I think Dante is one of the all-time great fictional characters, complex and dangerous, sexy as hell, and vulnerable all at the same time. I also love Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld, especially her werewolves, and Charlaine Harris’ Sookie/Southern Vampire series. And there are so many more … C. J. Cherryh, Anne Bishop, Suzanne Brockmann, Kresley Cole, Linda Howard, John Sandford, J. R. Ward, J. T. Ellison … I’m a voracious reader. Can you tell?
16. What is your favorite quote?
It’s from Walter Wellesley “Red” Smith … “There’s nothing to writing, All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein.”
17. Do you have a favorite book cover?
I love MY book covers, of course. But I actually have a framed copy of the art from Kresley Cole’s Kiss of a Demon King on my wall. The artist is Craig White and I LOVE that cover.
18. Naughtiest book you ever read?
Hmmm, what’s this naughty you speak of? The first erotica I ever read was Anais Nin’s Delta of Venus. I was a bit shocked, because didn’t know going in that the book was erotica! And now, of course, the romance genre has burst out of its heaving bosoms and lusty wenches into wonderfully sexy prose and hot, hot sex scenes. And I’ve read so many of those; I don’t think I can rank them all. Plus, I don’t really consider anything I’ve read to be naughty, just sexy, sensual and really hot!

I’d like to invite everyone to come by my blog at
I have contests and information on all my books, plus I post free Vampire Vignettes, which are little x-rated slices of life with my Vampires. Right now, I’m re-running the early Vignettes for anyone who missed them.
