Day 2 in 9 DAYS OF DARKNESS!

WELCOME TO DAY 2 IN OUR
9 DAYS OF DARKNESS EVENT!

Today I'm happy to welcome Cynthia Eden to DemonLover's books & more!
Cynthia is a new author for me, but comes highly recommended by author and friend Donna Grant.
Cynthia will be here today
10am-4pm to chat and answer questions
One thing I have to say is that I love her book covers!
Eternal Hunter is currently out now and the cover is hot!

Let’s learn a little more about Cynthia:
1. Where do you currently live?
I live along Alabama’s Gulf Coast, which, unfortunately, means I’m dealing with the oil spill right now.
2. Are you Married? kids? pets?
I’m married, have a wonderful son, and great dog. A normal life!
3. What/who/ How did you get started writing?
I wrote my first novel when I was 18. Writing is truly the job that I’ve always wanted, life just, ah, got in the way a bit. Even when I was a kid, I’d create stories and dream of being published. Good thing I never gave up on my dream!
4. Do you want to thank one person in particular for giving that extra push?
My mom has always supported my love of books. When I was younger, we’d go on what we called “Used Bookstore Hunts.” I’d make a list of hard to find books (like Jayne Castle’s Guinevere Jones series), and we’d search all the bookstores to see if we could find them. We’d drive for hours, just hunting bookstores.
With support like that, how could I not adore books?
5. How many books did you attempt before you were published?
Oh, wow, I’m not sure. Hmmm…I *think* I sold the 6th book that I wrote. Though honestly, I’m not sure. I try not to think too much about the ones that didn’t sell—I like to focus on the positive. The sales!
6. Do you have any MUST haves to write? Food, drink or time?
No, I have a four-year-old, so I have to be flexible when I write. I have to be able to write anytime, anyplace (and often with Thomas the Train on TV in the background).
7. Which novel is your favorite of your books?
It varies. When I am writing a book, *that* one is my favorite. I’m into the characters, deep in the plot, and at that moment, that particular book is my favorite. But, a few weeks will pass, and I’ll start another book. Then, yep, you guessed it—I have another favorite.
8. Who is your favorite character?
Sandra “Dee” Daniels (the heroine from my upcoming release, I’LL BE SLAYING YOU), is my favorite. She’s a tough, kick-ass heroine who isn’t afraid to hunt real monsters. She says what she thinks, does what she wants, and I adore her! I want to be her!
9. How many books do you have in the work now?
From July 2010 until March 2011, I’ll have 7 releases. I’m currently scheduled to release more books in my Night Watch series with Kensington Brava (my Night Watch books focus on my group of paranormal bounty hunters), and I will soon be launching a new romantic suspense series with Grand Central Publishing. The first book in my romantic suspense series is DEADLY FEAR, and it will be available 8/1/10.
10. For your next book, What is the name and when is the release date?
My next book is I’LL BE SLAYING YOU (6/29/10). It’s a dark, sexy paranormal about a woman who spends her nights hunting vampires…and the man who wants to hunt at her side.
11. What made you write a dark book?
I love pushing the envelope in my stories. For my characters, life definitely isn’t all sunshine and roses. Dee has a very painful past, and her present is primarily death (truly—she spends her nights killing vamps). The darkness allowed me to add extra layers for my characters. And, honestly, I just like writing about monsters. I don’t like perfect characters—I think real people have a bit of darkness in them.
12. Do you like writing the hot romance scenes?
Of course! Who wants to write cold romance scenes? Sex should be fun and hot!
13. Do you have plans for another new book/series?
I recently turned in a new paranormal romance to my editor at Kensington Brava. In this book, my hero is a Fallen Angel of Death, and my heroine is a vampire. If my hero wants to earn redemption, he has to kill the heroine. Ah, drama!
14. What is the 1st book you remember reading and falling in love with?
Jayne Ann Krentz’s THE PIRATE. Oh, she hooked me on the romance genre! And to this day (so many, many years later), she is still one of my favorite authors.
15. Who is your favorite author? Favorite series?
LOL, I think I skipped ahead on the last question! Jayne Ann Krentz is a favorite, and my other favorites include: Linda Howard, Larissa Ione, Julie Garwood, Anne Stuart, Christine Feehan, Angela Knight…oh, I could easily go on for hours.
As for a favorite series…J.D. Robb has me hooked.
16. What is your favorite quote?
We know a little about a lot of things; just enough to make us dangerous. "
--Dean Winchester, Supernatural
17. Do you have a favorite book cover?
Actually, I am totally in love with the cover of I’LL BE SLAYING YOU. My editor did a fabulous job of picking that one!
18. Naughtiest book you ever read?
Absolutely no clue. Do you have a recommendation for me?
Thanks for interviewing me!! Have fun with your 9 Days of Darkness!
Actually Cynthia, I do have a couple recommendations for you! But we’ll chat about that later.
It was so nice to find out about you and I’m very excited for your next release of I’ll be slaying you in June.

What was your profession before writing? I remember my dad taking me to the local used bookstore. He would let me buy anything from love stories to horror and the lady who owned it asked, "You don't mind her reading this stuff?" He said, "I don't care what she is reading as long as she is reading." Those times at the used bookstore are some of my favorite childhood memories. I still go to that book store when I go home. :)
Thanks for the interview.

OMG!Seven books in one year? That's fabulous!

I read Jayne Ann Krentz in all her pen names too. Just like I'll follow you in your different genres. (That sounds stalker-ish, but not physically. lol Just your books.)

Kel, your interviews and choices ofauthors are fantastic. I have so much in my to-read pile. Thanks.
And this series looks awesome!!!! So excited to read it

Thank you for the interview. I am definitely looking forward to reading 'I'll Be Slaying You'...sounds terrific.

I was wondering how you come up with your various characters whether heroes/heroines or secondary characters. Do you come up with their personalities and characteristics first and then name them or the other way araound.

Thank you for all the great stories I have enjoyed of yours and looking forward to many more books in the future.

Hi, Stacy! I taught middle school history before becoming a full time writer (I had a few other careers, but that was my last one before the switch). So glad that you enjoy hunting at bookstores, too!

Hi, Angie! Thanks for checking out the interview!

Hello, Elizabeth! I do enjoy doing a series, so that's a possibility!

Cynthia Eden said...

hank you, Victoria! Yes, it's gonna be a busy few months! :-) But busy is good!

LOL, thanks, Edie! I'm *almost* done with the revisions on that 7th book and then I'm taking a vacation!

Thanks for reading the interview, HighlandHussy!

Thank you very much, Shari C! Sometimes, I start with an image of a character in my mind (like with Dee from I'LL BE SLAYING YOU).I had her name first, then her tough personality immediately appeared as the opening scene of the book developed.

Hi, Pamela! Thanks for checking out the interview!

Cynthia Eden said...

Thanks, Carrie! I adore that cover.

debbie said...

I was wondering if you would base any character's personalities on your family or friends? Also, have you ever had anyone ask you (that you were close to) if any characters were based on them?
I would love to read your book.

Cynthia,
I can't believe part of my comment didn't post! (stupid iphone)
I also, wrote that I think it's amazing that you wrote 7 books in one year! And with a 4 yr old! I wrote mine with my son on my lap almost the whole book! (he was 11 months when I started). I think it's awesome that you find time to write and be a mom and a wife. It's not easy.

Hello, Debbie! I do like to work in personality quirks from some folks I know (I've used my own chocolate addiction before!). And my husband asks all the time if my heroes are based on him, LOL.

Hey, Miranda! Thank you! So glad you enjoyed Immortal Danger and I hope you enjoy Eternal Hunter, too. And as for writing with another author, since I am such a huge fan of Jayne Ann Krentz, I'll pick her! :-)

Oh, HighlandHussy, I have felt your pain! When I wrote my first paranormal for Kensington Brava (Hotter After Midnight), I literally wrote that book with my son sleeping on my lap. He was one of those babies that would wake instantly if you tried to put him down. So, in order to write the book, I couldn't put him down!

Cynthia Eden said...

DemonLover, thanks so much for inviting me over! I had a great time answering your interview questions!

Hi, elaing8! Are you having a good weekend? Hmmm...now you've given me a tough question. How about this...
For Dee: tough, strong, dangerous
For Simon: secretive, alpha, sexy

And Dee was my favorite. I loved getting into her head!

Thanks so much for the comments!

Cynthia Eden said...

Thank you, Jellybelly!

Love all your books Cynthia, haven't read one that I couldn't put down. I asked you recently about Lucas from IMMORTAL DANGER and I forgot to ask one more question, have you ever thought about writing a book about Adam's niece Cammie and Lucas's brother?

Have a great day!

Thank you, Michele! And, yes, I have definitely thought about writing a book about Cammie and Lucas's younger brother. I wrote a bit more about those two in Lucas's book. One day, I would love to give them a full-length story.

Hi, Jeanette! Thank you! Hmmm...the first paranormal romance I read? It was Christopher Pike's Remember Me. I think it was labeled as YA horror, but I thought it read like a fabulous romance!
