The past is never over. It just gets dusty. Lisa Shewmaker was a rising star in a prestigious law firm in Lexington, Kentucky; that is, until the firm went bankrupt and she lost her job. With an ailing mother to care for, Lisa takes the first position she can find: research assistant to District Attorney Scott Buchanan. Scott is as disagreeable as he is sexy, and Lisa suspects the only reason she got the job is because of her privileged upbringing as the daughter of a wealthy federal judge.
While reviewing cold cases in the Fayette County courthouse, a particularly thick manila envelope draws Lisa's attention. The details of the case are engrossing: An entire family-father, mother, and two children-disappeared more than twenty-eight years ago. Except that's not all: The mother in the photo could have been Lisa's twin, and the toddler in the picture bears an uncanny resemblance to Lisa herself. Before Lisa can learn more about her past, a series of catastrophes strike close to home. Lisa confides in Scott, and their relationship develops into something completely different. Together Lisa and Scott unravel a terrifying web of criminal connections that could destroy the very fabric of Lisa's life-if she lives long enough, that is.
This was an intense Murder Mystery with a touch of reckless abandoned mixed in. What I mean is that it was primarily a Mystery, and a good one at that. Karen is thorough and precise in her setting of the scene for this thrilling story. You are pulled in and kept at the edge of your seat, waiting and wanting to find out the whole truth.
But in our heroine's case, the truth might just get Lisa killed. Only the steady hand and strong shoulder of her childhood friend, Scott Buchanan, is going to get her through her life now turned upside down. Lisa finds things that can not be easily explained, about her past, her mother and her childhood. The more she digs into the unexplained, the danger she faces; someone doesn't want the past to be remembered.
All through the story we are enticed with the heated pull between Scott and Lisa, a teenage lust never quenched and consequently set at a very slow simmer.
This sexual tension is so thick you can cut it with a chainsaw!
But really, a fabulous thrilling story and a little passion mixed in. A very nice read.
DEMON RUM
It was the publicity stunt from hell as far as Kirsten Rumm was concerned. She may have been writing the book about her late husband, aeronautical daredevil Demon Rumm, but she didn’t see the need to play host to the arrogant bad-boy actor starring in the film version’s title role. Still, for the good of the project, Kirsten agreed to share her beachfront home with the impossibly sexy screen idol. Any other woman would do anything to be in her sandals, but Kirsten wasn’t falling for Rylan North, even if he did play his role of male lead to perfection. His down-home charm, his gentleness and virile charisma, might be seducing her in every sense of the word, but he was an actor, after all. Seducing an audience was his job. Rylan could have any woman he wanted. So why was he so desperately pretending to want her?From the moment he saw her, Rylan North knew that Kirsten Rumm was the woman he’d been waiting all his life to cast as the star in his real-life love story. What did it matter if he was every woman’s fantasy if he couldn’t get Kirsten to so much as glance his way? He’d caught the look of past hurt behind her sky-blue eyes–a dark secret that shadowed the sparkle. Rylan was determined to find out what tragedy held this passionate woman back from a second chance at love even if it cost him his reputation, his career, and his life. But first he’d have to get Kirsten to act on her instincts . . . and to trust the flesh-and-blood man behind the fantasy.
Let me start by saying "HAWT", this book was nothing like I expected...I should have known better, it's Sandra Brown! Leave it to Sandra to introduce a sinfully sexy, brooding, rugged, ripped and facinating character the like of Rylan North. He is everyone's dream hollywood bad-boy come to life. But that isn't what get to you. It's that is all a lie, it's all rumors and he is so much more. Rylan's depth and character are the reason he goes Kirsten's home to research his character in the upcoming movie DEMON RUMM; be she is why he stays.
Rylan's accute observations when it comes to Kirsten Rumm, make him want...no, Need to find the truth she's hiding about her late husband.
His simply plan turns out giving him more then direction in his character, but maybe a pathway to lust, love and possibly a future with this facinating woman?
Excellent read, steamy and hot in all right places.
