Chippendales-Beyond skin deep

CHIPPENDALES
BEYOND SKIN DEEP
As many of my readers may know, I feature many attractive men on my personal website and draw attention to the spectacular bodies their dedication and hard work have produced. But in most cases there’s so much more than what you see on the outside.

I had the pleasure of attending the Chippendales Male Revue @ The Rio Hotel/Casino while in Las Vegas this last weekend and taking in 2 shows. Two, you ask? Well, the first was strictly fun and a planned “girl’s night out”, but the second was mostly working. After seeing the show for the first time ever, I was so impressed that I approached the Chippendales PR people about reviewing the show and interviewing one of the performers; they gave me Jace Crispin.

Above I mentioned performers, not dancers; there’s a reason for this distinction. The Chippendales show is so much more than a bunch of hot guys “taking it off”; it’s an entertaining, high octane, show stopping performance. The routines are innovative, original, well choreographed, high energy and guaranteed to leave you smiling, laughing and wanting for more. Think all you will get is a little dancing for your money? Of course you get that, but you also get to enjoy talented men singing, acting and even showing off their skills playing guitar. Having seen the “other” male revue in Las Vegas 10+ times, I truly can’t believe that Chippendales’ extravaganza of sheer male talent has eluded me for so long. A mistake I will diligently rectify by attending the show frequently in the future.

The Chippendales show has someone or something to offer each and every audience member, whether your tastes lie in firemen, B-boys, cowboys, men in uniform or out of them; the men of Chippendales WILL entertain you.

One other thing I must note is the quality of the performers and staff at the Chippendales theatre, each staff member was professional and had a single goal of making sure you simply enjoyed the show. All the dancers were very nice and even make an effort to mingle and sign autographs for the audience in the “Flirt Lounge” after the second show each night. If you are looking for an experience you will never forget, the Chippendales Male Revue is the one show you don’t want to miss.

Chipendales is the premier provider of entertainment for women and is currently the #1 Male Revue in the World. www.Chippendales.com features a free site offering a wide array of editorial and pictorial content and the Chippendales’ store, which sells branded products. For more information, please visit http://www.chippendales.com/.
Chippendales performs nightly at 8:00 p.m., with additional shows on Friday and Saturday at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $39.95 and $49.95. For tickets, call (702) 777-7776. Locals can receive tickets for $25 nightly with a valid Nevada I.D. for any performance.

UP CLOSE with Jace Crispin
We can already see from the photosthat performer Jace Crispin is easy on the eyes, but I wanted to find out a little bit more.

Jace Crispin is 30 years old and comes to us from Orange County, Calif. Jace was a star athlete in the sport of high school water polo and even delayed plans for college to pursued a career as a professional water polo player in Europe. Two years later, plans changed due to injury and he had to give up playing the sport professionally.

Jace said he went through a rough time after the injury and found that he had somehow lost his direction. He then decided to pack up his surf board and everything into his truck and head to the Mexico. I jokingly said that he was having an “Eat, Pray Love” adventure, but he agreed that “It was something like that”, and explained that for the next two years he would surf his way along the coast of Mexico and California. Trying to find his niche and make ends meet, Jace worked as a tow truck driver by day and exotic dancer by night.

Apparently all his hard work would pay off, because while dancing one weekend he was approached by a member of the Chippendales brand and asked to attend an open audition the very next day. Jace auditioned and amazingly received a call back before he ever made it home. Nearly 5 years ago he packed up everything and moved to Vegas joining the Chippendale’s team. He told me, “I hope to put in 15 years as a Chippendales dancer, I just really love what I do”. What Jace says is sincere and it is confirmed when you watch him perform. He stands out in the show‘s numbers and puts his heart and soul into the performances.

Not that you need MORE to love about Jace Crispin, but he is also a genuinely nice guy. I asked him what he like to do in his free time and he simply stated; “I spend any extra time I have with my dogs”. Jace is a dog lover and hero in the canine community. Recently Jace was mentioned in an article by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for his efforts in saving three abandoned dogs left without food or water by the previous residents of a foreclosed home. Jace found an underfed silver terrier-poodle on the street near his home and proceeded to return the dog to the address on the dog’s tag. What he found when he got there was heart breaking. The home had been vandalized and defaced by the last resident, an obvious foreclosure; the home was torn up and in disrepair. Garbage was strewn on the floors and apparently the only thing to eat for the other two dogs he’d discovered had also been left behind. Taking matters into his own hands, he enlisted the help of friends to round up the malnourished and scared animals and take them to his home for care. Through his kind efforts, all the dogs were placed with members of the Chippendales family and are now doing well, the terrier-poodle being placed as part of Jace’s own family.
I’d like to thank Jace for the interview and putting up with all my questions, and have to address the ones that my readers will hound me for...

Yes, Jace is single. He says that he is still looking for “the one”. He is also finding time in his busy schedule of nine shows a week to go to school and finish his degree. I did ask Jace if he’s a reader, and sadly he said, “no. because I have to read aloud to really retain the information or listen to audio books, I’m more of an outdoors kind of guy”. We get it. Who has time to read when you’re saving puppies, dancing your pants off (literally) and seeking the great outdoors? No matter, I hope we as readers at least get to see him grace a book cover in the future, even if he doesn’t take a peek inside to read it.

My weekend adventure in Vegas has led me to discovery that the men of Chippendales very well may be just as spectacular on the inside, as apparently they are on the outside.

Special thanks to Michael Caprio, National Press Representative, and all of the Chippendales team.

Up to no good in Vegas... who me?

Found me a new set of friends while in Las Vegas this weekend.
While taking in a show at the RIO in Las Vegas I found me a new bunch of Man Candy to share with all of you.
Actually, I'm very excited to let you know that I will be interviewing the cutie who's lap I'm perched upon: Jace Crispin

I never thought I'd say this, but Chippendales has knocked Thunder Down Under off the top of my list. The show was AMAZING!
Stay tuned for the interview with Jace and review of the Chippendale's Male Revue.

Book Review: Luck of the Wolf by Susan Krinard

I received this book as an ARC
The actual release date is November 1.

This book was quite a mess. I've only read one other book by Susan Krinard- Touch of the Wolf- but this was not only very similar, but not as well written.
The main premise of this story is that a female werewolf named Aria who has to hide her true identity, is being taken to America from her small Austrian town. Her guardian Franz knows everything, but has yet to tell Aria anything. He has kept her hidden away from the world in a cabin in the mountains allowing her to run wild. However, once in New York, Franz is killed and all of his papers and money are stolen, so Aria still knows nothing other than her family is in San Francisco. So she takes a train to San Fran and gets kidnapped by some less than above board men.
Enter our hero Cort. Beauregard Cortland Renier originally of the Louisiana bayou wins Aria at a poker game. He recognizes her as a female werewolf, and saves her from an awful fate. Thus begins the pack of lies Susan Krinard tries to feed us.
Her book was so unnecessarily complicated it is unreal.
Cort's friend Yuri recognizes Aria's eyes and sees her as lost relative to a wealthy family in New Orleans. He convinces Cort to go along with his plan.
Meanwhile, Aria feigns amnesia for no reason I could figure out. Then Yuri and Cort bring in Babette, a former whore and the most famous madame in NOLA who is now a respectable widow in Denver. Babette's job is to train Aria the half wild wolf-girl to act like a lady a la My Fair Lady. Next the connection to the Renier family in New Orleans is kept from Aria and it becomes very like the movie Anastasia. It is my belief that Susan Krinard must have watched an Audrey Hepburn marathon before getting the idea for this book.
During all this weird lying and plotting behind everyone's backs, we have a Duke from the old country who is trying to stage a coup and usurp the royal throne back in that tiny country near Austria. So he wants Aria. But even the Duke has an alias.
Every character here had ulterior motives and plots that WERE COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY!! The plot could have carried on without all of the misconceptions and lies and half-truths. It was a sloppy job of trying to write an intrigue into the romance.
Once everyone is done double-crossing and backstabbing each other, they end up in New Orleans where everyone is treated poorly. Cort at one point courted the beautiful daughter of the NOLA Reniers, Madeleine, but she accused him of forcing her and had her male relatives beat the crap out of him. She never then insulted Aria and Cort, and we, the readers, are just to take it?! Really? It was frustrating that Susan Krinard never gave us any resolution with any part of that, or with the bad guys. They were conveniently dead. No suffering, no finding out they were wrong, just dead with a tidy bow on top for the poor reading to just roll over and believe. Then everyone was double-crossed again, and might I add that it was out of left field! It not only didn't flow, but added to the irritating mess that I call Luck of the Wolf by Susan Krinard.

Book Review: Winter's Passage by Julie Kagawa

I didn't realize that this was YA when I read it, but I enjoyed it a lot. I got this as an ARC from Netgalley, although I believe the novella is out now.

I would fully recommend reading the books in order. I will immediately getting the other 2 full-length books so that I can "catch up." Being that I'm not a big fan of YA, I think that for me to want to read more is a huge deal. Fans of Twilight and Shiver will enjoy this series.

The romance is lacking but since this is Young Adult Lit, they would like it since the only thing that happens is a kiss. It was a very clean read, no sex, no cuss words, etc...

The writer does do a good job with the description of the surroundings within the Faery realm. It was beautiful, and the imagery was fantastic.

My favorite part was the appearance of the famous(or infamous) "Big Bad Wolf", yes the same Big Bad Wolf that went after Little Red Riding Hood.

It's only 51 pages, and it definitely did it's job as an interim novella-I now want to read the whole series and it had enough review that I wasn't completely lost not having read the first book The Iron King.

Book Reviews: The Vampire's Desire and A Vampire's Vindication

A $2 ebook with a great vampire story.
I love Alexis Morgan, so it's no surprise that I love her vampires. I asked her if she set this in the near future because I noticed words like "transport" used instead of "car" and she told me it's a slightly different reality. So New Eire is a different world, just FYI.
Other than that, it's an action-packed short story...don't see too many of those. The lust factor is there. I love the world set with pure-bred vampires, chancellors (half-breeds) and humans. It was a quick, lusty, adventurous short story about vampires and humans fighting over a worthless piece of land while an unexpected enemy betrays them all.
Alexis Morgan always delivers love, lust, action and a great story.
4 stars

I have a really hard time rating short stories, but Alexis Morgan always does a great job on hers.
I think this could be a 5 star short, maybe someone else who's read it can comment about that for me. I have a tough time rating shorts as fivers because sometimes I miss the full-length action.
Although, with Alexis Morgan, there is never that missing action feeling, and her characters lust factor is usually pretty spicy. I like how in paranormals, the love factor can be explained as "mates" so you don't feel like they fell in love to quickly.
I liked how Keelie had blamed Griff for her father's death (his best friend) for her whole life, but was still drawn to him, and for some reason trusted him. Keelie trusted Griff to keep her safe while at the same time palming her own gun to go after the jerkoff who set her house on fire WHILE SHE WAS STILL IN IT!! (she what I mean about a ton of action in a short page span?-Alexis is always awesome about that!)
So, for $2, this is an excellent buy, I'd pay 3 or 4 even since it was pretty hard to put down. (I bought it on my iphone Kindle app while my daughter got a cavity filled at the dentist) and I enjoyed the hell out of the Keelie and Griff. And the werewolves. I am soo looking forward to the her next short.
5 stars
(both Nocturne Bites are set in the world of Vampire Vendetta)

Erotic Novelist Elizabeth Amber has earned an award!

I'm proud to announce that author Elizabeth Amber has earned the coveted
Golden Cucumber Award
for her book RAINE in the Lords of Satyr Series
The Lords of Satyr series is a fanciful journey into all things dark and seductive.
The warning label on the back of the book: "This is a REALLY HOT book" is no joke!

This series is Paranormal and takes you back to the 1800's and into the world where magical beings and happenings exist, but are hidden from those whom are merely human.
Magical gardens, vineyards of life and gateways to otherworlds.
In book 2, Raine, the middle Satyr brother must travel to find his predestined bride in Venice. Time is of the essence and a threatening plague upon the family's vineyard weighs heavy on his mind. His journey to Venice is to attend a lecture regarding the disease affecting the vineyards across Europe.
Call it fate or coinsidence, Raine stubbles into the wrong door, at the right time. A lecture on a shocking abnormality and displayed right there before him on the stage is a naked human, riveted; he dare not look away. Raine has just met his bride to be...

I thoughly enjoyed Book 1, Nicholas, and Book 2. These erotic novels are not for the faint of heart. They are lusty, intense and passionate novels that snare you and refuse to let go.
I read each one in a day, could not put them down once started.
Great reads, please check out Elizabeth's website
and her other works.

Book Review: TAKEN by Chloe Stowe

TakenTaken by Chloe Stowe
Buy on AMAZON
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am really speechless about about this book. Author Chloe Stowe has completely outdone herself.

Imagine meeting the man of your dreams, your soulmate, your everything; only to have them torn from your life. Or being chained to the vows of marriage, condemed to see that all you ever wanted is out there in the world; but can only be attained in secret. Never really being able to "know" the person who holds your heart.

Not only does author Chloe Stowe broach these subjects, she also takes you along for a ride of passion, sin and extasy. Her writing is detailed and enticing, letting you visualize action and reaction between our m/m characters. Who knew such passion and love could exist for any couple?
I'll have me some of that!

I applaud the storyline, detail, research and obvious effort that went into this book, it was a pleasure to read and an honor to share with all of you.

A MUST read, no matter what genre you normally frequent.

Book Review: Secondhand Spirits by Juliet Blackwell

I really liked this book a lot. Any of my friends know I'm not much for a book without romance being the key factor. I am a changed woman! At least for this book. It is book one in the Witchcraft Mystery series and it was great!

Our heroine is Lily Ivory. She is an incredibly powerful natural born witch who has moved around a lot in life, never really wanting to settle down. But San Francisco changed her mind, and she opened up a vintage clothing shop. In fact, the tagline on the cover is Love the vintage, not the ghosts. Lily has only been open about 6 weeks when a super sexy guy walks in and the bell above her door doesn't chime as he walks beneath it. Hmm...

Aidan Rhodes is a male witch who wants Lily to, well he just wants Lily, we're not really sure what it is he wants. We know he worked with her father, who it was implied went over to the dark side, so that's not exactly a point in Aidan's favor. We know he is powerful. And he left Lily with a familiar. What is her new familiar? not a cat, not a dog, but a...Gargoyle!!! (well, he's a gnome, but he looks like a gargoyle). It was a cute little interchange when Aidan left the little guy with her. Lily named him Oscar after Oscar the Grouch...he can turn into a pig when he wants so he can be with Lily in her shop. And of course everyone loves Oscar, and he just loves the ladies.

Now in the first few pages, we've met Aidan, male witch, Oscar, new familiar, and as Lily goes to an old Victorian mansion to scope out some old lady's clothes for her shop, we meet Frances (the owner of the clothes) and we hear La Llorena.
La Llorena is a demon-According to the legend, the 'weeping woman' was abandoned by her children's father, and "the anguished mother took her children down to the water and drowned them one by one, finally flinging herself in to join them in their watery grave." And now she wails for her lost babies and lures other children to their deaths.

So while in Frances' basement, looking over vintage clothing, both Frances and Lily hear La Llorena wailing. Frances being able to hear her means she is now marked for death. Thus begins the mystery, because right after they hear her, a neighborhood girl goes missing.

Our next big character is Max. Where Aidan is described as just plain beautiful, Max is likened to a "battle-weary medieval knight who had just removed his armor." He comes into the shop looking for some herbs to help him in his quest to see a ghost...but Lily recognizes the name of his tour guide, and tells him not to go with the guy-he's a fraud. Surprisingly Max knows that-Max is planning on busting the guy. But when Lily hears they are going out into the bay for their ghost hunting expedition, she pleads with Max not to go. But how do you convince a man you just met that there's a demon in the water? Meanwhile Lily wants to get the missing neighborhood girl back from La Llorena, but she needs Aidan's help, and the help of all of her new friends.

This book has the beginnings of a great love-triangle, some quirky characters from Oscar the pig/gargoyle, to Bronwyn who's part of the local coven, to the neighboring merchant Sandra (who I soo thought was the villain of the piece), and to Frances herself not being what she seems.

A fun mystery with an Urban Fantasy feel, and a character who sounds like someone I'd like to know, a solid 4 star book for any paranormal mystery/UF lover.

Book Review: Shadow of the Vampire by Meagan Hatfield

Shadow of the VampireShadow of the Vampire by Meagan Hatfield

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I usually rate a book 5 stars for one of 2 reasons: 1. It was fantastic! The writing, the storyline, the characters. Fantastic.
2. I would re-read it. Some books even I can admit don't have the best writing, or a few plot holes...but I've re-read them. This one had both of those reasons! At no point did I skim, nor did I even want to. in fact, now I have a new reason to rate a book a fiver: I stayed up til almost 2am finishing this book. Mind you I was up with my 3 year old around 5 am.
It's been a long time since I've stayed up past 11:30 to read.
Okay, so, moving on. Alexia is a vampire. Her mother is the queen of the horde and she has a particularly brutal reputation. Or at least she did until recently. Ever since Lotharus came into their lives, he has gone from Queen's consort to actually ruling their matriarchal society from behind the scenes, going so far as to rape Alexia (our heroine) to keep her in fear of him. Can I just say, that a lot of villains annoy me. They either fall flat or just don't seem worthy of the good guys (ahem the Lessers from the BDB). I think that Lotharus was above and beyond the worst villain ever created. Man this guy's brutal. Not only do we hate him, but we want him to die a slow, horrible death. In fact his "comeuppance" and subsequent death weren't nearly enough for me. I mean homeboy raped our girl, drugs her mom, turns their people against them, tortures her man, tortures our girl some more, and steals her power and her mom's and kills her mom and almost kills our girl! I mean it was touch and go for a while.
And our hero? Holy moley do I want him for myself!!!!!
Declan Black is the King of the dragons, the sworn enemy of the vampires. But he is a new king seeing as Alexia's mom and psycho lover Lotharus have recently tortured and killed Declan's parents. Silver is deadly to dragons in this world, and Lotharus had their bodies cremated and then sprinkled the ashes into melted silver to make weapons. Sicko.
So Alexia captures the dragon king and from the first moment, those two are hitting sparks off of each other. In fact they are so sparky, that Declan is able to almost seduce Alexia right there in the first 15 pages...and it was fabulous!!! As I said, I want him for myself.
Alexia's no slouch either. She may be afraid of Lotharus but she can still hold her own as a warrior. In fact she helps Declan get free once she realizes just how psychotic and power hungry Lotharus really is. See the vampires are a matriarchal society, but they haven't always been, and Lotharus found some ancient journals from their first and only king. He wants to be king, and he will force the women to demean themselves since he has found a way to clone male warriors, and to strengthen them against the memories that come with drinking blood and against the sunlight...it's kind of cool how he uses the elder's pure blood to do all that.
I think that Declan and Alexia were a great couple, I loved how they thought, how they acted around each other, how Alexia could be strong as a warrior and yet cry on Declan's shoulder. I liked how the ending played out after her death (yes you heard me, she died!!! Well, came so close to death, that there's really no other word), and I just LOVED what happened when Declan fed her his blood and she turned. Her new life as a dragon queen will be hard, but I loved the concept. And apparently there may be another female heir to the vampire queendom...Declan sent out his Hunter and his sister to find someone important (I won't give it away), and his friend Falcon to find that alleged heir.
This book kept me on edge to the point that around midnight I brushed my teeth while not putting down the book, I tried to read and wash my face (that didn't work out so well) and I even propped it open so I could change and keep reading. The action just never stopped. be prepared to read this in one sitting because there are no good "stopping points" you'll just have to set aside 5 hours or so to read the whole book at once.
