Big Bad Beast by Shelly Laurenston

Big Bad Beast (Pride, #6)Big Bad Beast by Shelly Laurenston

My rating: 4 of 5 flames

---Spoiler-Free Review---

If you're a Shelly Laurenston fan, you will love this latest edition to her Pride series. I say that because I wasn't a fan til now. If even I liked this, I have no doubt that most readers will.

I had a hard time with the first part of this book. I don't like bitchy heroines. I just don't. I also have only read on other book by this author, and I really didn't like it.

Then after a while, I kind of realized that Dee isn't a bitchy heroine...most of the time, anyways. She actually turned me around. I began to not only like Dee but to enjoy her personality and her snark. Oh she still had her bitchy moments, but I was able to like them, and laugh at her sense of humor.

Ric, on the other hand, I loved. No, I adored Ric. He wasn't the typical alpha male growling "mine" and stalking Dee all around the book. No, he was a smart and, well, nice guy. While I do love me a good alpha male, sometimes it's nice to have a change.

The storyline in this one picks up with the hybrids, and the illegal fights (think dog fights, or cock fights). In this book they're trying to find the money trail and see how high up it goes-not only do they find the money trail's end, it hits much closer to home than anyone thought.

Meanwhile, Ric is trying to trap his She-Wolf Dee into realizing that they are perfect for each other. I loved Dee's family. I loved all the side characters, and about halfway through the book, I loved Dee as well.

My favorite part was when Dee, Marcella and Dez had just finished a mission together, and they don't really get along, but have a tentative truce.

"You"---she pointed at Dee-Ann---"kill at the slightest provocation. I hit for no other reason than I feel like it. And MacDermot is rude and abrasive." Cella put her arms around each woman's shoulders and hugged them in tight. "Oh my God! I just realized. I love you guys!"
"You're touchin' me," Dee-Ann complained.
"Yeah but at least this time it's not 'cause I'm hitting you."
"Only 'cause my back's not turned."
MacDermot laughed. "She's got a point, Malone."

In fact, I enjoyed the sarcastic wit so much, I plan on now re-reading the book I didn't like by her with a fresh perspective, and seeing if maybe I just didn't "get" the snark and sarcasm.

Over the Edge by Scarlet Hyacinth

Over the Edge [Kaldor Saga 2] (Siren Publishing Classic)

Over the Edge by Scarlet Hyacinth:
Skaldor Saga, Book 2
5 Flames = Volcanic!

I am a big fan of Enraptured: Kaldor Saga, Book 1 Gabriel and Lucien's story and I must say, Scarlet Hyacinth does it again. This time showing readers Kalin and Cade's story.
The beginning of this book overlaps with some parts of Enraptured but from Kalin's point of view. I really liked the prequel that explains some of the relationship between the three brothers and their evil mother.

And what happens when there are 'safely' back in Zeetah was completely unexpected. I ended up hating their mother even more while also appreciating the extreme subtlety of manipulation she possesses. If it had not been for Kalin's narration of the scene I think I would have missed the digs and trouble she was trying (and succeeding) to stir.

I really liked that we got Gabriel's point of view after the major catastrophe on Xeetah followed by a cliffhanger that jumped to Kalin's point of view. The progression of Kalin and Cade's relationship was interesting to watch since their characters were so different from Gabriel and Lucien, plus they seemed so much alike so it was nice that their conflict was very different from Enraptured. It ended wonderfully with just enough intrigue to draw you to what will hopefully come soon, Cain's story.

The Demon's Bargain by Lisa Alder 4 out of 5 flames

The Demon's Bargain (Demons Unleashed)
The Demon's Bargain
by Lisa Alder

4 Flames = Smokin Hot!

This is the first in the Demons Unleashed series and I have to say this story automatically gets major points for making Fae the bad guys. I hate Fae, it’s a quirk, it’s deep rooted from childhood…blame Peter Pan and “Labyrinth”. So I’m rooting for anyone/anything opposed to the heartless fu…er um…creatures. In this instance it’s demons.

Not demons as in Satan serving beasts, but other magical creatures that had been forced deep into the earth’s crust for imprisonment by the evil Fae. Not that the Demons are necessarily ‘good guys’ either, since both races use humans as power sources we poor humans are stuck in the middle of a raging war for dominance and have not necessarily fared well. Essentially the Demons disrupted all of our technology when they were released, thus forcing us back into a new sort of Dark Ages where we have to live off of the land again, live in tribes, and fight for survival while two magical creatures use us for their own gains. Does not sound like a good time.

Our main demon, Vetis, is collecting energy for an upcoming battle with the evil Fae. Enter a slimy twerp who wants to trade his wife, Amara, in to pay a debt he owes to the Demon Lord. Yeah, like that’s gonna work. Of course Amara is completely disgusted by her husband, an arranged marriage that hasn’t gone very well for her, and has trained herself to be completely empty emotionally. Guess what energy the Demons and evil Fae feed off of…you got it, emotions. So of course this presents a nice challenge to Vetis who’s been a bit bored as of late. Doesn’t take much of a stretch to guess the details from there, and there better be a sequel since we’re left on a bit of a cliffhanger.

What works for the story, outside of Amara’s seduction (which in the context of the story is really a huge gift Vetis gives to her), is the set up of this world. No one is entirely good or bad, except the evil Fae. While the Demons do what they have to in order to survive, they recognize how unfair it’s been to humans, however it can’t be helped. Or can it? Hmmm….seems there may be something more going on here. Like perhaps Demons wouldn’t have to feed off a lot of humans if certain events, like falling in love, can give them more than enough energy? But I’m speculating here. Time and sequels will tell.

And most importantly the seduction is H-O-T. I mean, yes she’s being pimped out by her weasel husband (and not for the first time), but in the midst of her ‘capture’ she’s taught that sex doesn’t have to necessarily be painful. Vetis makes sure that he lets her see exactly what pleasure really is, and in doing so gives her a new perspective on life and a new strength of purpose.
Also, I have a whole new appreciation for peaches and chocolate, it's proven once again that it is the most perfect food in the world.

Book Review: The Becoming by Jeanne C. Stein

by Jeanne C. Stein

Published by: Ace Fantasy
Publish Date: Nov. 28, 2006
Genre: Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance

Blurb from Goodreads:
Anna Strong is trained for anything-until she's attacked one night, only to awaken in a dark world that exists between the living and the dead. Here, Anna struggles with her love for the two men who inhabit the realms of each: Max, a human DEA agent, and Avery, a Night Watcher who joins Anna in pursuit of the vampire who changed her life.
Now, as her two worlds collide, fate plunges Anna into the ultimate battle between good and evil where survival is not just for the living.

4 Flames = Smoking Hot
Review from Book Savvy Babe:
The Becoming is the first novel  from the Anna Strong Chronicles from Jeanne C. Stein.  I would classify this book as Urban Fantasy, but there is heat, sex, and chemistry, giving it a touch of the paranormal romance feel as well.  In this first book, the story is about how Anna, a bounty hunter, is transformed into a vampire.  At first, Anna does not even understand what happened to her.  With the help of an old vampire and Night Watcher, Avery, Anna begins to understand what becoming a vampire means.  Avery is also there to help Anna track down the vampire who attacked her and turned her life upside down.  However, as problems continue to follow her, Anna begins to realize that maybe everything is not as it seems and loyalties come into question.

The Becoming is a pretty good first book, even though the beginning was a bit rocky.  The attack that causes Anna to become a vampire is violent, and Anna’s reaction doesn’t quite match that of a victim.  She says she’s in a relationship with Max, but Max is hardly ever around.  There seem to be a few discrepancies with Anna’s character, but I suppose some of them could be a reaction to drastic events.  For a character who shows so much loyalty to her bounty hunter partner, David, it seemed odd that no loyalty was shown to her so-called boyfriend.  However, these discrepancies manage to give Anna depth and add reality to her character.  Anna is the kind of heroine I love, the tough girl trying to make her way in the world.  By the second half of the book, I was hooked and very into the world of Anna Strong.

The best way for me to describe The Becoming is to say that it is a promising first book. The characters are  engaging, the writing is sound, the setting (San Diego) is fun and provides an entertaining back drop for the series.  At the end of The Becoming, there is plenty of room for Anna to move forward, more secrets to uncover, and room for her character to change and grow.  I really liked the book, and I am looking forward to reading more of the Anna Strong Chronicles in the future.

Vampire in Atlantis by Alyssa Day

Vampire in Atlantis (Warriors of Poseidon, #7)Vampire in Atlantis
by Alyssa Day
5 Flames = VOLCANIC!
(Mostly) Spoiler-free

One of the problems with having a favorite author is having high expectations. Alyssa Day's Warriors of Poseidon series was my first paranormal read ever. Add that to the fact that her books just get better and better (I mean I never thought she'd be able to top Brennan's!) and once you put all that together, well, that's just a lot of pressure for this book to have. So what happens if this book isn't awesome? I hate that nervous feeling I get as I crack open a new book from one of my favorite authors.

Why on Earth was I worried?

This book more than delivered. Do we need to say it together? "I shall never doubt Alyssa Day again." Now repeat.

Daniel is one of my favorite vamp heroes, even if he gets a bit emo at times (hey, it's understandable! look what's he's been through! He thinks he's the reason the love of his life is dead), and he feels that 11,000 years is plenty. He's tired, he's lonely, and he doesn't see the point in life anymore. He decides to walk into the sun,but he falls into a portal instead.

Serai was one of the maidens frozen and meant to be married to a royal husband to ensure the purity of the Atlantean line(Remember in Atlantis Rising where Prince Conlan was supposed to be engaged to one of these women?). Well, wouldn't ya know that after 11,000 years she is able to break free of her prison? And what's the first thing she wants? Escape.

Opening a portal, Serai is all set to run from Atlantis and into freedom, when Daniel falls through the portal and lands at her feet. Daniel thinks he's in heaven, and she is shocked and confused, but drags him through the portal with her. They had known each other before Atlantis sank beneath the sea! She was the love of his life who he'd thought was dead. He was a blacksmith, she was an Atlantean princess. What a love story!

One of my favorite scenes happens right after they go through the portal. Jack (our tiger shifter-hello hot tiger goodness!) attacks them, and Serai does something soo cool that I can't spoil it for you. But let's leave it at she makes Jack roll over and show belly. It was a great scene.

Right about there, we find out that the Emperor, an amethyst from Poseidon's trident, is what has kept the maidens in stasis for the past 11,000 years. And wouldn't ya know, someone wants that stone, and wants to use it for evil purposes? I really liked the side-story about the vampire and the witch using that stone. Best quote? From Ivy, the witch, to her teenage son "Don't threaten the scary vampire." That scary vampire was actually a pretty cool bad guy, or maybe a not-so-bad guy...

Serai and Daniel have to find the Emperor and get it back to Atlantis, but the capricious portal won't let anyone through to help. It was great seeing the two of them reconnect-what a love story! And watching Daniel see himself through Serai's eyes, and not through the tortured-hero-alpha-male blinders he'd been wearing was so beautiful. Can I just sigh for a minute about this book? ::sigh::
The love scenes were so steamy hot, I needed a cold glass of water! And Daniel, in that alpha male "mine" mode? Oh *swoon* I about melted into a puddle. I even cried at one point. Vampire in Atlantis will grip you, and hold you tight til the end of the book, you won't want it to let you go, and you'll find yourself slowing down so you can savour the story.

One of my favorite characters is Poseidon himself. I love his cameo appearances in each book, and this one doesn't fail to disappoint.
"Remember, it's a dry heat." Trust me, that will be funny once you've read the book ;)

**Thank you to Alyssa Day for the ARC
This book releases June 7,2011 and guess who's next? Quinn and Alaric!!! Their book Heart of Atlantis will come out Jan 3, 2012.

Highland Scandal by Julia London

 by Julia London

  • Audio CD

  • Publisher: Brilliance Audio on MP3-CD (August 12, 2011)

  • Language: English

  • ISBN-10: 1455838780

  • ISBN-13: 978-1455838783

There's just something about a good 'ole Highland romance...
Though well written, I found the book slow at times and struggled to muddle through. The heroine, Lizzie Beal, was a spitfire and probably what kept me reading. Her unpredictable nature and independent spirit makes you have to find out what occurs next.

Jack Haines, Earl of Lambourne, is the poor bloke that finds himself handfasted to Lizzie to escape the noose. Somehow though, I think Jack gets all he deserves with this arrangement, payment due maybe for his less then sparkling past with the ladies. He is painted as quite the rogue. Though my attention was surely supposed to focus on our hero, I was left longing for the true gritty rogue of a highlands the title eludes to.
When Jack and Lizzie finally do collide, the sparks fly, but those moments are short lived and found to be sparse within this novel.
As a whole, I believe the 3 flames rating is just.
I just hoped for a little more scandal in this Highland Scandal.

    Book Blurb:
On the run from the wrathful Prince of Wales, Jack Haines, Earl of Lambourne, is taken prisoner by a Highland laird who makes him an unusual offer: if Jack handfasts his niece, then his life will be spared. The old Highland custom a marriage lasting only a year and a day, unless both partners agree to make it a lifelong vow sounds preferable to Jack to being dragged to London in chains, and when he meets lovely Lizzie Beal, his dilemma starts to seem positively enjoyable. Until the hellion vents her fury…on him! Detesting the scandalous match that will end all her chances of making a respectable marriage, Lizzie can’t abide living intimately with a fugitive nobleman bent on seducing her and then running off. But in teaching her the pleasures of a wife’s duties, Jack sparks within them both a passion that will make him wish he could stay with Lizzie for much longer than a year and a day.

Book Review: A Caning For The Goddess

A Caning For The Goddess (Perfect Punishments)
    edited by Miranda Forbes
    2 Flames = Fizzled

My first inclination was to give this 1.5 flames, just for the first stories’ use of creative language. Reading it through the first time it felt stilted and boring. Then I skimmed back through and read it while imagining the authors laughing their butts off while writing each one and thinking “Hmm…how can I make this as ridiculous as possible?” And then my estimation raised another half flame. Although, I don’t know if that was the intention and it doesn’t really speak highly of the stories, so much as my own determination to try and wring something entertaining out of these.

It wasn’t the subject matter that bothered me, I like a little BDSM kink as much as the next person so long as no one is really getting the sh*t beat out of them or putting their lives in real danger. What bothers me is that I didn’t feel like any character was honestly engaged with what they were doing. Call me crazy, but it’s not sexy or exciting if you don’t think anyone is getting any true enjoyment out of it. That might have to do with the writing.
In most cases it seemed like the authors were so busy trying to shock the readers with the situations or with their vocabulary that I just couldn’t connect. Even when I reread them as nothing but parodies of spanking stories, there was still a distance. It was like watching Fellini’s “Cassanova” or the club scenes in “Cabaret”. They’re doing things that are suggestive and taboo, but with such ennui or forced levity that it left me cold. I’ve read some short stories/scenarios with the same themes in them and felt completely drawn in, this wasn’t even a good peep show.
Of course all things are subjective so someone else may read these and find some titillation out of them. I don’t see how, but to each their own.

Book Review: Scandal in Scotland by Karen Hawkins

Scandal in Scotland (Hurst Amulet, #2)

My rating: 4 of 5 flames

Scandal in Scotland immediately follows the first book, One Night in Scotland, but I don’t think it’s imperative you read the first book. The basic premise of the series, is that Egyptologist and explorer Michael Hurst has been taken hostage until his family turns over a certain artifact. In the first book, Mary Hurst retrieved the artifact, and in this second book, we see his brother William Hurst taking on the mission of getting the artifact to Egypt.

Michael Hurst captains his own ship, so it makes sense that he take the box to Egypt. Unfortunately within the first few pages it is stolen from him…by his ex-lover! Marcail Beauchamp is a beautiful and legendary actress. She was the love of his life, until she told him she didn’t love him and that she’d found a new man to make her his mistress-a titled man who could offer her protection. Michael is constantly reminding himself that whatever emotion he sees in her is false, she's an actress after all.

You can get a feel for the book from this small passage:

"I sense some trickery here. I know you, Marcail Beauchamp, and you cannot be trusted."

"You don't know me. You never did." She spoke with such quiet dignity that he was almost taken aback."

Now, not only is Michael furious when he realizes what exactly Marcail stole from him, but he's irritated that he still feels something for her. Going after her is a given, but he has to find her first, and since she drugged him, she has a head start.

He catches up with Marcail rather quickly, though, and the two of them have to fight their attraction, try not to discuss the past, and find out who is behind his brother's imprisonment. But there is so much more going on, see, Marcail stole the box because she is being blackmailed, so she needs the box as well. So what can the two of them do when they each need the same artifact?

Watching Michael realize how wrong he'd been about Marcail was great, and I'm glad he figured a lot out on his own, too. I liked watching him see how wonderful she really was. Very sweet. When he realized what she went through to not only become an actress, but what she went through all the time as an actress, his comment to her was "I should have been there." *awww*

I enjoyed watching the side characters too. There is a woman involved who has super cool ninja skills at eluding capture, and when you find out who she is? Wow, you would never have guessed it in a million years! I can NOT wait to see more of her!

One thing that drove me nuts about this book, though, is that before every chapter we see a letter from someone in the family to another family member. It was like that in One Night in Scotland as well.

Final verdict? Really enjoyed this book, and I'm enjoying the series. I can't wait to read the next book in the Hurst Amulet series.

Man Candy of the week: Sadik Hadzovic

    Meet Sadik Hadzovic

For him, I might have to learn a second language...
I've seen a lot of buzz about him and many of Sadik's photos floating around on Facebook.
He is a model and natural body builder. Sadik is Eastern European, At 23 years of age, this NYC native is taking ground as the new up-and-coming top model in the fitness and fashion industry. Sadik has earned himself a huge following as being the muse of many professional photographers statewide.

The youngest of four, Sadik and his family found refuge in the United States escaping the war torn Yugoslavia. Sadik’s inspiration, drive and work ethic is product of his no-nonsense upbringing. At 8 years of age, his father stepped out of the picture, igniting in Sadik anger, isolation, depression, and disappointment, all of which he channeled when he was introduced to the world of weight training.

Weight training provided him with the strength, courage and discipline to combat the anger, bred from his past. For Sadik, strength training became a tool to transform negatives into positives, breeding the energy and confidence required to overcome the tough hand dealt. He found true contentment and the passion for life, very few are fortunate to find in his circumstances.

In the winter of 2008, Sadik was introduced to New York photographer, Jimmy Murtaugh. After just a few test shoots with Jimmy, Sadik’s modeling career blossomed. To much respect, Sadik humbly said, “I always believed that God puts certain people in your life for a reason and Jimmy was no exception.”

Soon after, many fitness photographers took notice of Sadik’s look and wanted him in their portfolios. He was effortlessly successful in fitness modeling, yet Sadik was not content with being dubbed “just another fitness model”, so he dabbled with fashion modeling. He provided a unique look for fashion and to the surprise of many fashion photographers; Sadik does not deliver a “stiff” look like that of most muscular built fashion models.

Desiring to advance his portfolio and career, so far, Sadik has worked with some of New York’s finest photographers including: Joseph Bleu, Richard Gerst, David Arnot, Zeke Photography, Sean Toussaint, Jason Jaskot, Jimmy Murtaugh, Gideon Monaghan and Luis Rafael.

Interview/Review with Joann I Martin Sowles

    Meet Joann I Martin Sowles
Author of The Brookhaven Vampires series

Joann was kind enough to send me her book for review & grant me an interview. Here's a little bit about the writer of a great Paranromal Romance book called LANEY.

    Where do you currently live?
I currently live in Rocklin. It’s just outside the Sacramento area in Northern California.

    Are you Married? kids? pets?
I’ve been married for 12 years and we have two children, ages 10 & 11. We also have 2 great cats that we rescued and a very devoted Australian Shepherd.

What/who/ How did you get started writing?
I begin writing because Laney’s story had formed in my head and I needed to get it out. It got to a point where I felt like I needed to write it more than I wanted to. I still feel that way at times; especially when I’m super busy with everything except writing. I get all antsy and irritable and need to sneak off and get more of her story written to calm myself down. :)

Do you want to thank one person in particular for giving that extra push?
My husband has always been completely supportive and when I told him I wanted to write Laney he told me to do it and kept telling me that I could. So I did. He had been a constant support and so helpful with everything.

How many books did you attempt before you were published?
Laney is the first book I’ve ever written and I published myself.

Do you have any MUST haves to write? Food, drink or time?
Not really. I do like to snack while I’m writing and try to be sure it’s something like fruit or nuts but lately it’s been Easter candy. I also like to have a cup of tea – usually peppermint or chamomile – and I shut myself in my room and hope the rest of the house stays somewhat quiet so I can get some writing done.

Which novel is your favorite of your books?
I just have the two, Laney and the soon-to-be-release Darkness, I don’t think I like either of them better than the other. There are definitely aspects to each one that I love, but I’m pretty sure not more than the other one.

    Who is your favorite character?
Of the characters that have been introduced, I’d have to say that Laney, Oliver, Felix or Carter would be in the running to be one of my favorites but it’s really hard to chose just one.

How many books do you have in the works now?
I have several. To tell Laney’s story I have at least 4 more. Once I complete her story I plan to write Oliver’s version and several other stories based on characters that have been and have yet to be introduced.

For your next book, what is the name and when is the release date?
The title of book 2 is Darkness. I do not have a specific release date, but I do know it will be released sometime this summer (2011).

What made you write a dark book?
I don’t think Laney is all that dark. I think it has some dark aspects to it but I believe the love story portions make it….

Do you like writing the hot romance scenes?
    I do! *blushing a little*

Do you have plans for another new book/series?
I do. Like I mentioned before, I plan to finish up Laney’s story and then tell several of the other character’s stories. I also have several other ideas in the works that aren’t related to The Brookehaven Vampires world.

What is the 1st book you remember reading and falling in love with?
The Princess Bride (The ‘good parts’ version). I wasn’t much of a reader and a friend lent me a copy. She kept telling me that it was such a good read and that I would love it. Well, she was right. So much so that I never gave her copy back. Terrible, huh? I love the way William Goldman retold this story. He did an amazing job and made it such a fun read. I think I might need to reread it again.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite series?
My absolute favorite authors and series are Rachel Caine and her Morganville series, Charlaine Harris and her Sookie Stackhouse novels, Christopher Paolini and his Inheritance Cycle, and JK Rowling and her Harry Potter series.

    What is your favorite quote?
“I would rather regret the things I have done than the things I have not.” Lucille Ball

Do you have a favorite book cover?
I love books! Their covers are what draw me to them and I have a lot of favorites but I can’t imagine trying to narrow it down to one.

    Naughtiest book you ever read?
Any of JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

I’d like to say thank you for this great interview and I’d also like to say thank you to all who have taken time to stop by and read it. The second installment of Laney’s story, Darkness, will be released this summer. I invite all of you to visit my website where you can read the first 3 chapters of Laney. http://www.brookehavenvampires.com/
    Enjoy! ~Joann I Martin Sowles

    4 Flames! Smokin Hot!!

I really enjoyed Laney, and thought that the book was very well written. Kudos for a first book and self Pub to boot.
The author definately had the art of sexual tension down to a science by the end of the book, I'm deperately waiting to find out what happens next between our main characters, Laney Alexander and Oliver Knight.
In the end it's refreshing to have a NEW vampire book. By new, I mean the ability to look at a PNR vampire book through fresh eyes. Nothing about this book was predictable, quite the opposite.
A quick, enjoyable read...and a page turner as well.

I venture to say that this first book in the series could even have fallen into the YA paranormal fiction catorgory, nothing too sexual ot graphic. But, the author assures me that things are going to heat up in the next book, DARKNESS, so it MUST remain in the Adult PNR genre.
No matter the label, LANEY can't simply be classified as a good read. So I suggest you take a look.

You can fine out more about the book & the author at:

Demon Hunting in Dixie by Lexi George

Demon Hunting In DixieDemon Hunting In Dixie by Lexi George

My rating: 4 of 5 flames

I loved this fun and witty story about, well, not much really, but that's half the fun. There's a plot about demon hunting, but it's not quite the main focus of the book. The book is a witty and fun romp about chasing demons, reanimated dead guys, talking dogs, falling in love, and watching some Dahlvani warriors get intoxicated on chocolate. Trust me, this is one you won't want to miss.

Quick recap: Addy is out jogging with her dog,Dooley, one night and as soon as Addy starts to get that "I'm being watched" feeling, Dooley goes nuts and runs off into the woods. Addy goes after her and when she finds her dog, she also finds some freaky shadowy demon things, and a super hot hunka burning alien. The Dahlvani is hunting the demon and sees the demons swarming this beautiful human, he has to do something.

Next thing we know, this emotionless alien has lots and lots of emotion directed towards Addy. His brother warrior Ansgar gives him a hard time, but for some reason, those pesky feelings bother him too...about Addy's friend Evangeline. Meanwhile, the demons are gearing up to take over Earth, or at least Hannah, Alabama. Can Addy, Brand, Ansgar and Evie save Hannah, Ala?

The majority of the book is just fun. I can't think of another word for this book. The Country fried storyline is one that will have you cracking up throughout the whole book.

My favorite part was where two older women were brawling at a funeral.

(bit of backstory, Addy is a florist-the only florist in town-so she's there for both the flowers and the funeral. The decedent's wife Shirley cut off his manhood and is flaunting it at his mistress Bessie Mae, oh and the body's missing)

"Tramp!" Shirley yelled, pounding Bessie Mae's head into the floor.

"Sicko weenie whacker, " Bessie Mae flung back...she seemed oblivious to the fact that her Playtex 18-hour bra showed, she'd lost a shoe, and there was a big hole in one of her support stockings.

The whole book is full of crazy fun scenes like that. Paranormal lite doesn't always work for me, but this one's a keeper.

So if you're in a reading funk and want something totally different, this is the book for you!
