Kiss of Moonlight by Stephanie Julian

Kiss of Moonlight
by Stephanie Julian

3.5 out of 5 flames
Kiss of Moonlight Kyle is a lucani (essentially werewolf/shapeshifter) who does dangerous missions for the king. While his daughter, Cat, is visiting him she becomes interested in a new neighbor who is staying in an isolated cabin near their property. Reluctantly Kyle agrees to go check the woman out in his wolf form, after all how can any Dad worth his salt refuse his baby girl, and is immediately smitten by this wounded woman. At first he feels a little guilty for allowing her to pour out her secrets to him while she thinks he’s a harmless dog, but since he’s decided that he’ll get to the bottom of all her secrets the guilt is pretty short lived. Tamra, can’t believe how incredibly H-O-T her neighbor is and when she’s invited to dinner with him and his adorable daughter how can she refuse? Little does either one know that a chain of events is about to take place that will not only draw Tamra (a human) into a world she should never know about, but that both of their worlds are in danger from someone who is determined to harness the magic Kyle and his kind posses…any way they can.

Yeah, it goes without saying that Kyle is the man. Soldier – check. Doting father – check. Sexy alpha male – check, check, and check. In fact about the only thing he’s missing is some sort of sexy accent, but I guess we can forgive him that right? What I like is that Julian decides to take the granddaddy of Roman/Greek mythology, Etruscan, and build her gods, goddesses and magic from there. So it gives you a fascinating new look at a familiar world. She even puts a handy dictionary at the beginning so she doesn’t have to take up too much time explaining each new phrase which leaves more time for the action….all the action. *wink, wink*
There is a little disconnect with Tamra’s ‘troubles’ and how quickly she gets past them and I have a wee bit of a problem with that (at the risk of giving something away, even though it comes out pretty early on, she was the victim of rape and is at the cabin trying to recover not only physically but emotionally as well), but not enough that it detracts from the story, or from the chemistry between Kyle and Tamra. And there is plenty of chemistry. Overall a really good read and I can’t wait to see what happens to some of the other characters we meet.

Anthology Review: Inked

An anthology by Karen Chance, Marjorie M Liu, Yasmine Galenorn, and Eileen Wilks
Imprint: Berkley
Publisher: Penguin Group
Genre: Paranormal/Urban Fantasy Anthology
My Rating:   4 of 5 flames

Blurb from publisher:
Four of today's hottest urban fantasy writers together for the first time!

From today's most provocative authors come four tales of urban fantasy and paranormal romance exploring body art that is more than it seems-in a world of magic and mayhem that always leaves its mark.

This captivating tattoo theme surrounds each author's popular characters and worlds:
Karen Chance's war mage Lia de Croissets, Marjorie M. Liu's demon-hunter Maxine Kiss, Yasmine Galenorn's Otherworld Intelligence Agency operative Camille D'Artigo, and Eileen Wilk's Lupi world.

BookSavvyBabe’s review:
Anthologies make for interesting reading.  They give readers an opportunity to be introduced to new authors, worlds, and story lines.  In the Inked anthology, all four novellas are linked by a common theme, tattoos.  I love tattoos, I have a few myself, and the pairing of urban fantasy and ink sounded like very fun reading, and it was.  I enjoyed all four stories in this anthology.  The world’s were all unique, the characters interesting, and the writing was excellent.

The first story in this anthology is Skin Deep, by Karen Chance.  I have read some of Karen Chance’s work before, but I was not very familiar with the characters or setting in this novella.  The ink in this anthology is actually a magical rune that comes into play while the main character, Lia searches for her missing mate.  The story was well developed, and I enjoyed meeting these characters and exploring this world.

The second story is Armor of Roses by Marjorie M. Liu.  I have not read Marjorie M Liu’s work before, and I was very happy to read this story.  The main character is a demon hunter, Maxine Kiss, who has very unique ink, a special and dangerous bloodline, and the ability to time travel.  This story was very different, and very compelling.  I really loved this one, and look forward to reading more of Ms Liu’s work in the future.

The third story is Etched in Silver by Yasmine Galenorn.  Again, I was unfamiliar with this author, but I enjoyed the story.  This one was also very well developed for a short story.  The character descriptions and backgrounds were clear, and I enjoyed the romantic touch to this story.

The fourth and final story in the Inked anthology is Human Nature by Eileen Wilks.  This story is a novella with some of the characters from Eileen Wilks’ popular Lupi series.  FBI agent Lily Yu and her mate Rule are back in action, looking for the killer of a friend and pack mate of Rule’s.  There is magic, werewolves, and plenty of bias to go around in this story.  It was a quick, but good read.  Lily and Rule are such and uncommon pair, it is always fun to read about their adventures.

Urban Fantasy fans, if you like short stories or novella’s (and tattoos), this anthology is a great read.  All 4 stories were well-written and fun to read, and now I have a craving for another tattoo...

Dragon Warrior by Meagan Hatfield

Dragon WarriorDragon Warrior by Meagan Hatfield

My rating: 4 of 5 flames

This is the short story before Shadow of the Vampire and I really enjoyed seeing Sparrow and Kestrel, but it was too short.

I love that Kestrel has a prosthetic because so often it's hard to have a disabled hero, let alone a disabled dragon shifter. His leg is taken by a silver battle ax (silver is deadly to the dragons) courtesy of a horde vampire. Sparrow is a healer, like her father before her. She is nothing like the mad scientist he was though...or is she?

When she can't heal the Captain's leg, she grabs one of her father's old books and some pins and screws...does that make her as mad as her father? Sparrow refuses to dwell on that and instead focuses on giving Kestrel a chance at being a warrior again.

I think that the romance was sweet, and it starts out with a battle scene, so that was pretty rockin' but I wanted more.

I did however enjoy Sparrow's first Change and how she went to get her man! It was sweet.

It lacked word-building, BUT if you read it after Shadow of the Vampire rather than before, you won't mind at all.

I really hope Meagan Hatfield has some more planned for us with this series.

Never Cry Wolf by Cynthia Eden

Never Cry WolfNever Cry Wolf by Cynthia Eden

My rating: 5 of 5 flames

Set in the Night Watch world, but not a part of the series, Never Cry Wolf delivers! And how.

We met Lucas Simone in Eternal Hunter , and as the alpha of the L.A. pack, he is more than just a handsome face. In fact, he’s in jail being accused of murder when we first see him. A sexy and beautiful woman comes in and springs him from lock-up claiming he’d been with her all night, and couldn’t have committed the murder. While that is a great bit of luck for Lucas, he’s never met the woman.

Sarah is on the run. She’s got a bounty on her head, and she’s hoping that between saving Lucas from jail and providing some inside intel on another pack, Lucas will take her in and protect her. Lucas has a weak spot for protecting the weak. Sarah knows this and plans on milking it as long as she can. She’s under no illusions that it will be easy, in fact she’s scared out of her mind while she’s bargaining for Lucas’ protection.

Lucas doesn’t buy what Sarah’s selling, not for a second, but there’s just something about her, and he can’t seem to tell her no. He wants her, no doubt, but there’s something more. For those of you who don’t like fated mate plots, don’t worry! That’s not the case here:

”Shifters know their mates.” Not some predestined our-souls-are-meant-as-one bullshit. He didn’t buy that crap.

Even Lucas doesn’t believe it. But still…there’s something more to Sarah. And he will find out what it is. What she does tell him, Sarah tells in bits and pieces. She’s a Charmer. A Charmer usually has an animal that she can talk to-Sarah can communicate with wolves. Something that she doesn’t tell Lucas, is that she can do much more than just talk with them. (won’t spoil it!) And that murder that landed Lucas in jail? That was Sarah’s friend, a Coyote Charmer...and it was a warning to Lucas.

So much more than just rival pack politics is going on in this book. We have power-mad coyote Shifters, Alpha wolves bent on revenge, there’s some magic and voodoo, the FBI is involved in ways no one ever guessed, and we have Sarah’s ex.

Rafe is the rival Alpha wolf who has his own pack, but he wants Lucas’. Well, mostly he just wants to take Lucas down. Sarah was his girl for a short time, and once she realized that he didn’t just accept her for her “charms,” but he wanted to use her gift, Sarah tried to leave him. But Rafe wouldn’t let her go. He found out just how strong her Charms were...

This book is amazing. The alpha Lucas is one of my favorite heroes. He’s the perfect blend of harsh and aggressive Alpha male but doesn’t come off as a big fat jerk. He is protective, and possessive, and so sexy. I would LOVE just one night with that wolf! This book can stand-alone, you do not need to have read Cynthia Eden’s Night Watch series to read this one…but you’ll want to afterwards.

My favorite part of the whole book is right at the end, when Lucas is telling Sarah he can’t love. He’s never known love, and wouldn’t know how to love.

“Love.” He said the word as if her were tasting it. “You’re the first thing I think about when I open my eyes. The last damn thing at night. And when I dream…” He swallowed. “It’s of you. Sarah, is that close to love?”

In Cynthia's own words, Be afraid of the big, bad wolf...

Review: Possession by A.D. Blackburn

by A.D. Blackburn
Rating 3 out of 5 flames.

Possession reminded me a wee bit too much of the tv show Supernatural. Haven’t seen it? You need to! It is one of the darkest, sexiest, snarkiest shows on tv, in my opinion. Possession features a hunky hunter who finds and destroys demons, there are pesky and plentiful demons who inhabit innocent humans, angels who bestow angelic help to the hunters, there’s even the black eye demon bit and the familiar vomitus riot of black smoke that is spewed from humans when a demon is exorcised from a possessed body. The only difference here is that instead of two sexy brothers who hunt, there’s a crew of tattooed, motorcycle riding bad-asses who were bound for hell but have been recruited as hunters instead. And oh let's not forget, there’s plenty of hot, graphic sex! They can’t show that stuff on the CW, damn shame, really.

James is the leader of the “Diabolus Venator”, those devil killing, demon hunting hunks of men who help out the police with the demon infestation wreaking havoc on innocents. During a recent hunt, a demon tells James, “The Elder is coming” and says “We know your heart. We will take it and you will give us your soul to get it back.” During the kerfuffle the demon gives him a festering poison filled wound that knocks him out for a few days. Yikes! While he’s out, one of his best comrades contacts Maddy, the love James had to leave behind for her own good.

The two are reunited, have a nasty fight and then some scorching make-up sex and James once again is torn for his love for his soul mate Maddy and his fear of losing her forever. He continually tries to push her away to keep her safe, which only breaks her heart over and over again. What I really didn’t understand here was why James allowed himself to become so involved with Maddy in the first place. It wasn’t thoroughly explained or explored to my satisfaction and it niggled. Also, they were both completely in love with each other before the story ever begins and James just walked away. I have to admit I felt cheated a little at missing all of their firsts but I’m greedy like that.

This story is told almost exclusively from an uber masculine point of view and I very much appreciated that. I loved the descriptive prose from the manly point of view. “It was ball shrinking cold.” When the men talk to each other it feels genuine and their comradery and easiness with each other is very well written. “. . . you can be a miserable bastard who no one wants to be around . . .”

There are a few kinks in the writing that need some ironing out. Words are missing here and there, there are some spelling errors (toady instead of today, a “scarp of eyeball”) and the initial chapters are slightly confusing.

Possession was not a strong, emotional romance for me because there was so much else going on and there was the constant threat of danger overshadowing everything but I enjoyed the blood-soaked demon slaying with the same glee I do a Supernatural episode. Maddy was sweet, the sex was hot and all of the many larger than life men who were introduced in this story were a nice bonus too. I would definitely check out the next installment to see what happens next.
Possession can be purchased at Evernight Publishing

Review: Dark Embers by Tessa Adams

by Tessa Adams
Imprint: New American Library
Publisher: Penguin Group
Publish Date: July 2010
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance
My Rating:
3 of 5 Flames

Blurb from Publisher:
A new erotic paranormal series, starring dragon shapeshifters, kicks off with a very sexy debut...

Prince Dylan MacLeod is one of the last pure-blood dragon shape- shifters-and ruler of a dying race, the Dragonstar clan. It falls to him to protect his people and their ancient magic. But he has one important duty: to provide an heir…
Like all dragons, Dylan, who has a dark, rampant sexual appetite, can only procreate with his destined mate-for whom he's searched for the last five hundred years. But his quest is delayed when a disease sweeps through the Dragonstars, and Dylan must venture to the human world to find a cure. He tracks down bio-chemist Phoebe Quillum, never imagining the beautiful scientist would be the mate he's been seeking. But even with the fate of the clan on their shoulders, Phoebe and Dylan are overcome by their sexual desire.
Their passion turns to something truer, but when Phoebe is kidnapped by Dylan's oldest enemy, he must risk everything for his love and his clan…

Book Savvy Babe’s Review:
My first impression of Dark Embers is “HOT!”  This book has plenty steamy sex, alpha male lead character, and dragon shifters; all great ingredients for an amazing paranormal romance.  The alpha male lead is Dylan, who is trying to find a cure for a disease that is killing off dragons in his clan.  His best hope is Phoebe, a Dr and scientist who researches diseases.  The pair have instant chemistry, and it doesn’t take long for them to satiate their sexual appetites.  I will say, the sex was amazing in this book, and I loved the dynamics and the fireworks between Phoebe and Dylan.
Often times in romance novels, the main characters have issues to deal with and work out, and that holds true in Dark Embers.  However, both Dylan and Phoebe’s main issue is denial.  Dylan is constantly denying Phoebe’s call to him, and Phoebe is seriously denying who she is.  This gets old pretty quick, and in the end this denial is pretty much unbelievable.  I was loving the book, and then, with the end, I was disappointed because I just didn’t believe the extent of Phoebe’s denial.  That last plot twist just didn’t add up, other characters should have had more of a clue, even if Phoebe didn’t.  Unfortunately, that ending kind of soured the book for me.
I truly enjoyed the dragons, their structure, their magic, and their abilities.  Every dragon has it’s own unique abilities and style, and this made for fun reading.  Tessa Adams description of the dragon’s lairs and their New Mexico setting was beautiful and well written.  Overall, I enjoyed reading Dark Embers, and I rate it 3 of 5 flames.  It was very fun to read about a different type of shifter, and I will read more of Tessa Adams work in the future.
If you are a fan of erotic paranormal romance and dragons, Dark Embers is a good read.

Man Candy of the week: Alan D. Charles

Alan D. Charles
Say hello to Alan D. Charles...

He's quite nice and very intelligent. We chatted and I decided he had to be the next man candy of the week, he more then qualifies!

Here's the info about him:
Where are you from? Raised?
I grew up in Green Bay, WI, right across the street from my elementary school. I lived in that home for 19 years; my parents still live in that same home. I grew up with two younger twin brothers and two older sisters in, what I felt, were fairly cramped conditions.
When did you start lifting weights/ body building?
I began lifting prior to my Freshman year in high school with the intent to prepare for high school sports. I have continued to lift since pretty consistently, however, within the last few years I've learned that much of my earlier lifting was terribly ineffective compared to the proper lifting/training I am familiar with now.
Fitness serves many purposes for me. In a sense, it has the same purpose religion has for many others... I get on that treadmill or hit the weights and my stress from the day starts to melt away. I also find clarity on issues that are weighing on me. Secondly, I find much pleasure in the arts. I look at body building like a real-life sculpture. Its a project that takes dedication, years of hard work, and passion! You have the ability to choose what muscles to develop and shape, similar to the creation of a sculpture. In the end, you're left with a body full of beautiful lines and shapes which is aesthetically pleasing! We are our very own art project.
When was you first modeling shoot? And with what photographer?
I would consider my first real shoot to be with Luis Rafael. Although I had done a few smaller runways prior to shooting with Luis, that shoot was my first real experience in modeling. Luis is not only a talented photographer, but I always said he was also a talented scout, in that he had a knack for collecting some of the most beautiful  men to photograph. Furthermore, since I am originally a photographer it was a pleasure to be able to talk photography with him and learn where I could.
What is your age/height/weight/etc…all your stats.
I am 27 years old. 6' 1'' and I weigh 185 pounds. (I don't have body building measurements - My general fashion: 40R, 32/32
What do you do for fun?
I love the water. If I could be on a boat at some point each day of my life I'd be content. I sail quite a bit on one of the beautiful lakes in Madison, WI . I'm also into classic-wood boat restoration, and have restored two boats so far. I am looking to build a wooden skull this summer (crew boat), in which I plan to row early mornings on the river. I spend a lot of time with my camera as I am a photography by occupation and hobby. I try not to leave the house without it. I try to spend a lot of time with my family as it is my biggest point of pride.
What is your favorite meal? (spaghetti, tacos, lasagna)
My favorite meal... Jack's pizza and cheese noodles (mac & cheese) I mean, there are many other meals I'd choose over this combo due to quality, but since I'm thinking about memories, I have to include this combo. It was something we'd eat as children along with a movie from the local grocery store and I suppose the comfortable feeling has stuck with me. I hardly get to enjoy this anymore, but every once in a while I get to indulge and it brings back all sorts of interesting memories each time!
Are you married/girlfriend?
I am currently single. Having a family is very important to me and so I'll be excited when that next part of my life starts, but I'm not in a rush to make a quick decision. I guess I'm just waiting for someone to really impress me!
Most embarrassing date ever?
Unfortunately, I can't think of an embarrassing date. I've had several tragically embarrassing sexual moments (embarrassing at the time), which usually involved parents, or being caught by strangers... But those stories, are the kind reserved for personal conversation, not blogs:)
What is your 5 yr plan? Where do you see yourself in the future?
I would like to have children within 5 years and be married. This is something that I'm really passionate about and would like to see it happen, If it doesn't, I'd be just as happy. I hope to travel more. Expand my photography business outside of Wisconsin and venture into other areas besides wedding photography.
Something no one knows about you?
I am such an open person, It really is quite difficult for me to think of something no one knows about me. Here's something a bit quirky... This is something that very few people know. An odd pet peeve of mine is that I cannot eat cereal next to anyone else in the morning. The sound of someone else eating cereal that early in the morning drives me crazy. So, if you're going to eat cereal next to me, take care to practice very careful table manners, or exit the room:)

Thank you Alan for the interview & we wish you the best.
Keep doing what you do so well. Anyone ever tell you that you look like Mathew McConaughey?
Doesn't he, ladies?

Embraced by Blood by Laurie London

Embraced by Blood (Sweetblood, #2)Embraced by Blood by Laurie London

My rating: 4 of 5 flames

In the second full-length Sweetblood novel by Laurie London, we see Lily losing her sense of smell. For a tracker, that’s like a bloodhound that can’t smell.

Lily feels her identity is so strongly attached to her title, Class A Tracker (best of the best), that she has been faking it so no one would notice. Unfortunately, while she’s pretending everything’s a-okay, her partner, and trainee gets kidnapped by Darkbloods. And Lily sees that if she’d spoken up sooner, maybe he wouldn’t have been taken. Alfonso sees that her partner was taken because the Darkbloods thought he was Lily. (her partner was driving her car,so he was mistaken for Lily)

So this book picks up about a year after Bonded by Blood ends, and there is also a novella Hidden by Blood (it released on June 1) that is right before this book- and while Lily is in the novella, it's not necessary to the storyline. But yeah, anyways, a year later, we see Alfonso is still trying to redeem his past deeds, and for some reason, he feels that if he can rebuild his parents' mansion from Spain, maybe, just maybe, his brother Dom will see that he did care about their parents too. He regrets what happened. His brother has no idea how it affected Alfonso, and never cared to learn. Dom is kind of an ass in this book, but I liked him anyways.

But with Alfonso, he has a blood assassin out to kill him, and that was a really cool concept! However, Alfonso doesn’t want Lily anywhere near him with this killer out after him. That was why he originally left and stayed out of her life.

Lily, meanwhile is losing her tracking skills that make her the Class A tracker she is. Unfortunately being a super hot woman with a daddy at the top of the agency only makes her feel like people will think she got the job because of daddy. She's worked hard to get to the top, and losing her sense of smell is like losing her identity. So if she's not a tracker, who is she?

But the Darkbloods are trying to convert Trackers to the Dark(blood) Side (he he, bad joke) and Lily is numero uno on their list. So Alfonso starts tracking Lily. You know, to keep her safe and stuff since he's a tortured hero alpha male who has to deny himself but still protect his woman ;)

A lot of those kind of situations happen that force the sexual tension to ratchet up, and I liked it a lot. What I didn’t like was the way their first sexual encounter since they’d split up happened. I can’t tell more since it would be spoilery, but I really thought that all those lovely little opportunities where the tension was crazy hot would have been a better first time.

But, the Darkbloods are trying to get more and more organized than just grabbing humans off the street and draining them. Capturing and turning a Tracker was one way. A video game was another. The video game concept as a way to draw recruits was pretty cool. And watching Alfonso try to play video games was hysterical! There’s a scene where Alfonso meets Stephen, Lily’s ex, and it is so funny. But my favorite part was at the end, where Lily’s dad finally sees her. Not looks at her, but sees who she is, and how she’s the best in her field. It was very touching and started making up for the way he’d treated her.

There’s a little twist at the end, that while I really liked it, I don’t feel it was necessary. I gave the book that “too easy” type of feel to it. **Spoiler Lily’s daughter is also Alfonso’s daughter, and he already loved the little girl when he thought she wasn’t his. I like how it tied in his earlier power of teleporting, and I like how it got Stephen out of the picture, I liked the twist! I just didn't think it was necessary, that's all.

I really enjoyed this latest installment in the Sweetblood series and I hope you guys will too.

Felicity Heaton is here on DemonLovers!

Forbidden Blood (Vampire Venators Romance Series)
A Story of Forbidden Blood
Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to the lovely Kelly for having me here as part of my Paranormal Pandemonium 2011 Blog Tour.

Secondly, I would love to introduce you all to my dark world of vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters, demons, immortals and angels. My name is Felicity Heaton. Some of you might have heard of me. I’m a paranormal romance / science fiction romance author with over forty stories in my backlist, and around thirty of those are still available. I lean towards writing dark romances full of action and passion. With my stories, you’re pretty much guaranteed some good loving, some seriously deep emotions that will tug at your heartstrings, and some kick-ass fight scenes.

It’s a very special day in the calendar today. It’s the release of my latest vampire romance novel, and the first book in my new Vampire Venators series—Forbidden Blood. This is my seventh series, and the second to focus on my favourite paranormal species—Vampires. Only these are vampires with a difference.

Today, I’m here to talk about the book, and I can boil down the story into one simple question:
In the eternal darkness of his duty, can Amber become Kearn’s light?

It was something that ran around my head as I plotted the first novel in my Vampire Venators series and as I delved deep into the characters to bring them to life. It stayed with me as I wrote the first draft, and then the second, and even when I was polishing it and proofing it. It sums up the story so well, and in particular the hero.

Kearn is a vampire and a Noble. Born into the ruling line of the Savernake bloodline, he was once one of the elite in the vampire world that secretly co-exists with ours. His destiny as the second son was a life of leisure but the Sovereignty, a group of nine beings who preside over the nine species of demon and enforce the laws with the help of their Venators had different plans for him. They forced the role of Venator upon him. Kearn’s life spiralled into darkness and his eventual exile from his beloved family drove him to the edge of despair. With only his hated duty remaining, he lives from one hunt to the next until he meets Amber.

Amber is light embodied to Kearn, although he doesn’t realise it at first. What man knows he’s on to a good thing when he first comes across it? None, right? Well, vampires are just the same.

Readers who know me will know that I tend to write heroes who have been through the wars, have closed off their hearts to everyone, or have a side to themselves that they find it hard to accept. I love writing a hero who has had his share of pain and needs a good woman to walk into his life and kiss him better, and Kearn is probably up there with the best of them.

Writing Kearn as he gradually allowed Amber into his life and accepted his feelings and his need for her was one of the best emotional journeys I’ve taken in a book. It was right up there with Julian from my vampire romance epic, Love Immortal. Both men had been through so much pain in their past that they deserved someone warm and good to come along and love them.

But a story isn’t all about the hero. It takes a great woman to love a complicated man.
Attacked by what she could only call a vampire and saved by a mysterious silver haired man with an arm that glows bright blue, Amber is flung into Kearn’s world at warp speed. She finds her feet fast when Kearn tells her that she’s in danger and her only chance of survival is remaining with him. Amber knows when she’s on to a good thing. Surviving sounds good, but remaining with Kearn sounds better.

I wanted to write a strong female lead in Forbidden Blood, a woman who was going to reach out and take what she wanted, and not be deterred by the monumental task of winning Kearn’s heart. This is one woman who doesn’t easily give up, not even when she’s faced with Kearn’s cold demeanour and the titanium armour around his heart. She not only fights to crack it open but she fights with him against the vampire who wants her blood, bravely offering herself up as bait for the beast so Kearn can finally catch the man he’s been hunting for three years.

Amber is the sort of heroine who can face anything, but as she’s drawn into Kearn’s world and learns more about him, and about what he is, will she be able to still face him and accept that the man she’s falling for is also a vampire?

You’ll have to take a peek at the book to find out how this dark fairytale ends.

Forbidden Blood is available now in e-book formats direct from my site, on Amazon Kindle and on Smashwords, and will soon be available from Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple iBookstore, Sony Reader Store and other retailers. It will also shortly be available in paperback from Amazon.

Forbidden Blood
In a dark world where vampires exist and where Source Blood, a rare human blood type, can bestow godlike powers upon them, the vampire Venators of the Sovereignty fight to protect the humans by banishing those who drink it to the endless dark.

Exiled from his family and with only his duty to sustain him, Kearn has been on the trail of an elusive Source Blood abuser for three years. When he saves a beautiful human female from the vampire’s grasp, it turns out she’s the lead he’s been waiting for. Amber is a Source Blood and the perfect bait, but for who?

As they race to catch the vampire and survive the cruel games he plays, Amber is pulled deeper into Kearn’s world and discovers the painful secrets he hides behind his handsome but emotionless exterior—hurt that she has the power to heal if she is brave enough.

Forbidden Blood is book one in the Vampire Venators series and a dark, sensual tale of betrayal, revenge and a love that knows no bounds.

Felicity Heaton is a romance author writing as both Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton. She is passionate about penning paranormal tales full of vampires, witches, werewolves, angels and shape-shifters, and has been interested in all things preternatural and fantastical since she was just a child. Her other passion is science-fiction and she likes nothing more than to immerse herself in a whole new universe and the amazing species therein. She used to while away days at school and college dreaming of vampires, werewolves and witches, or being lost in space, and used to while away evenings watching movies about them or reading gothic horror stories, science-fiction and romances.

Having tried her hand at various romance genres, it was only natural for her to turn her focus back to the paranormal, fantasy and science-fiction worlds she enjoys so much. She loves to write seductive, sexy and strong vampires, werewolves, witches, angels and alien species. The worlds she often dreams up for them are vicious, dark and dangerous, reflecting aspects of the heroines and heroes, but her characters also love deeply, laugh, cry and feel every emotion as keenly as anyone does. She makes no excuses for the darkness surrounding them, especially the paranormal creatures, and says that this is their world. She’s just honoured to write down their adventures.

Spontaneous Fiction w/ DJ Manly

Spontaneous Fiction...Saturday?
Okay, so it's a little late, but so worth the wait.
This week we have one of my favorite m/m Erotic authors as our guest writer to tantilize you.

He has graciously donated a copy of his newest e-book,
ALL ABOUT JENNY, due out on July 1st.
The best addition to the story wins a copy!

Here is the Inspiration photo I supplied:
And here's how DJ started the story:

The vampire watched the stripper with intensity. He wasn't sure if he was the right one. It would take more than a few contortions from a hard muscled body to convince him. But Theodore was impressed anyway. It was remarkable how well this mortal knew the circumference of the small stage he danced on. The mask he wore made each movement hazardess. The bodies sitting around the stage held their breath, perhaps wishing he'd miscalculate and fall into their waiting arms. The dancer wore a collar around his neck, not the traditional type with a ring. It was more like a belt which had been buckled and tightened. He tore at it as he undulated his hips and slowly, very slowly unzipped his jeans. When the other man walked on stage, dressed like a dom, all in leather, wielding a whip, the blind stripper dropped to his knees. The whip cracked again, Theodore sucked in some air. The whip hit the flesh and his notrils filled with fresh blood. Ahhh...what was this...not completely an act. The streams of blood mingled with the sweat on the hard muscled chest and Theodore moved closer. It was then he met the gaze of the master. There was challenge in his eyes. The game was on...

Who can add to this one? Please continue this story...

Remember to put your email addy in the comment section so we can contact you if you're the Winner.

His Darkest Salvation by Juliana Stone

His Darkest Salvation (Jaguar Warriors#3)His Darkest Salvation by Juliana Stone

My rating: 4.5 of 5 flames

Jaguar Warriors are my new addiction. I want one soo bad!

I think it says something that 60 pages in, I went and bought the first 2 books. This is a different type of series, and I hope you guys like it.

Julian Castille has spent the past 6 months in hell. Literally. Being carved by a knife-wielding, slice-happy demon. So I think it’s safe to say he returns to his old life a bit...changed.

Jaden da Costa is a double agent. She’s walking a fine line between her family (da Costa jaguars are blood-thirsty and evil), and the greater good. Jaden now works with Julian’s brother Jaxon as part of PATU-Paranormal Anti-Terrorist Unit.

But the two have a history. A very interesting history. Julian and Jaden had a one-night-stand 3 years ago, and in that memorable, amazing, life-altering one night, Jaden did the unthinkable. Her jaguar claimed Julian’s as mate.

Once Julian realized the amazing woman he’d spent the best night of his life with was a jaguar (like himself), Julian freaked. He had been denying his other half. So in his panic, not only did he toss money on the nightstand, he treated Jaden like crap. And poor Jaden was now mated to this asshat who would never know.

Well, poor Jaden isn’t really “poor” anything. To the world, she owns and runs Mexico’s premier hotel. To her father, she is his good little daughter who will do anything for the cause of evil. To Jaxon, she is one of his best warriors. To Julian she is nothing but a regret. But when Jaden is all alone at night? She can’t keep her thoughts from drifting back to her GQ, white collar, master of the boardroom mate. And she hates herself for it.

At the end of His Darkest Embrace, Julian and Declan were sucked into hell, and even though Julian wasn’t of the warrior class like his brothers, he had left the boardroom, and his father’s business, and gone into the jungle. He was fast on his way to becoming a warrior, the warrior tattoos be damned.

That's exactly where this book picks up.

Jaden got a tip that Julian would be coming back soon, so she went to his apartment looking for him. And he did return. But he was far more dangerous than ever before. And to Jaden, that danger only made her want him more.

I've been reading other reviews and I'm surprised to see how many people are bothered by how dark and tortured Julian is. Really? It’s paranormal romance, and a dark and tortured hero is nothing new. He’s missing half his makes sense he’s an asshole. So, if you want a dark, tortured hero, this is your book! The awesome thing about the heroine is that Jaden is a warrior, so she's no shrinking violet. Jaden can take care of herself, and I love watching Julian learn to admire her for that. I love his fascination with her clan and warrior tattoos, and I love the sentence:

"Where the hell was her mate? Christ, if she belonged to him, he'd never let her screw off into the night, hitting homes that housed dangerous sons of bitches like himself."

This was right at the beginning, where even missing half his soul, he still felt something on a primal level for Jaden. Watching that grow, watching him gain hope, he was a great dark hero.

And at the end, I love that he didn’t get his soul back….it would have been too puppies and rainbows if he had ended all tidy and perfect.

So final verdict? I loved it! I have made Juliana Stone one of my new "authors to look for" every time I go to the bookstore. I hope she writes fast, because I want Declan's book in the next series, like yesterday.

thanks to Avon for letting me read this one, and thanks to Juliana for fielding all my questions :)

#DarkTour with Laurie London & Erin Kellison

Author to Author
Welcome these special authors and please enjoy this stop in the #DarkTour!

We’re Laurie London, author of the Sweetblood series, and Erin Kellison, author of the Shadow series. To celebrate the releases of our e-novellas, Hidden By Blood by Laurie and Shadow Touch by Erin, we thought it’d be fun to ask each other questions and give away a lot of swag, so stay tuned.

First up, Erin has some questions for Laurie:

1.  How did you come up with the idea for your Sweetblood series and for Hidden by Blood, in particular?
Regarding the series as a whole, one of the things I thought about was whether there could be other causes for the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder that just a lack of UV light. I blamed the weather for my tiredness, but what if it was because I didn’t know I’d lost blood because of a vampire?

In Hidden By Blood, I kept seeing a human man held prisoner by someone with latex gloves and a syringe. Turns out former Army Ranger Finn McKentry was being held as a blood slave because he’s a sweetblood, a human with a rare blood type that’s addictive to vampires. Unbeknownst to him, Brenna Stewart, a woman he’d once loved and lost, is also a vampire. Turns out, she’s the only one who can save him.

2.  What is your writing process?
I set myself a certain amount of words or pages I need to write each day and week. I don’t do other things until I’ve made my goal.

3.  If your Sweetblood world existed, would you want to know about the existence of vampires, or would you want to be one of the unsuspecting humans? What if you were a sweetblood yourself?
I definitely wouldn’t want to know about the existence of vampires. Ignorance is bliss. If I were a sweetblood, I’m still not sure I’d want to know either, because I’d always worry. However, I would want to be well versed in self-defense techniques and carry a silver blade.

4. Of all the characters in your Sweetblood series, which is the one you identify most with and why?
Probably Brenna from Hidden By Blood. She’s cautious and doesn’t like to take risks.

5. Did anything surprise you when you were writing Hidden By Blood?
Yes. Finn! He’s bolder and has a much naughtier streak than I had expected given that he’s a human caught up in the vampire world. But he is the perfect match for Brenna. He caused her to step out of her comfort zone and got her to change.

6.  Do you have any writing quirks?
When I start dreaming of my characters and story, that’s when they come alive for me on the page. Until then, everything feels flat and the writing is more difficult.

And now, it’s Erin’s turn on the hot seat:

1.How did you come up with the idea for your Shadow series and for Shadow Touch, in particular?
I was scared of the dark when I was a kid, so shaking-in-my-bedsheets scared that I used to watch the deepest of the shadows carefully just in case something was lurking within them. (If you look at something long enough, I swear you will see it move.) After a while, I wondered if shadows were permeable, if there might be something—a mysterious world maybe?—on just the other side. That world became my Twilight.
As for Shadow Touch, as I was writing the first two books in the series, I started thinking about the shadows that are attached to people. And I wondered what would happen if a shadow had a mind of its own. And I wondered what aspects of personality would be manifested in the dark half. Ellie Russo and her shadow were born.

 2.What is your writing process?
I stew a while until the story idea and main characters are kicking around in my brain, ready to go. Before I begin writing, I have some general idea of a scene or two up ahead that I am writing toward. And then I work straight through. Snacks are key. My critique partners read as I write, as does my husband, who also has to endure semi-incoherent ramblings as new ideas come.

3.If your Shadow world existed, would you want to know about the existence of the fae and other supernatural creatures, or would you want to be an unsuspecting human?
I would want to know. I always want to know. (Or I make worse things up.)

4.Of all the characters in your Shadow series, which is the one you identify most with and why?
Tough question, and for kinda hard reasons. It would have to be a secondary character named Zoe. She and her Shadow-gifted (and very sick) sister make appearances in all three books. But during the writing of my second book, Shadow Fall, and the third, Shadowman, my own sister had a serious health scare. (She’s doing great now, btw.) But I put a lot of my concern and feeling from that time into Zoe.

5.Did anything surprise you when you were writing Shadow Touch?
At the outset, I concentrated on my main characters, Ellie and Cam, but during the writing, I fell in love with the character of Laurence. I knew the moment he got out of the car that I would be writing more of him. And I will. He’s alive in my mind and will be making future appearances. I don’t know what’s to become of him, but I’m excited to find out.

6.Do you have any writing quirks?
No real writing quirks. But I am scared of the webcam in my laptop, especially since someone threatened to turn it on remotely.  It’s like an evil Cyclops eye looking at me. Now I have a band-aid covering it. So unless someone has super powers, they can’t see me through it anymore. And they’d need some hard-core telekinesis to remove the band-aid remotely. J Paranoid? A little.
